New @SmartAirFilters SA600 just arrived, e-thot for scale😁 Purchased, not a review unit.
So far- very well designed, no app nonsense, intuitive controls, excellent build quality. Filters were easy to pop in (pulls air from both sides).
Three speeds. First is basically silent, second you can hear but would not interfere with conversation, last is quite audible but something you'd want for an unmasked family dinner or other high-risk situation. I agree with the choice to include it and give people the option.
I can't test the specs but @SmartAirFilters is reputable in that regard and I think the CADR is most likely as advertised. My Xiaomi HEPA filters are a bit annoying with various UI issues and app tie-ins, I will most likely replace them with these as they wear out.
It's also worth mentioning that the frequency of the SA600 fan noise is a tad lower and more throaty than my Xiaomi. I have pretty high levels of background noise at home but anything with a high-pitched whine goes straight in the trash. SA600 is good in that regard.
Oh, after a while the LED indicators go to sleep to keep things unobtrusive. Very stealth mode and well thought out👍🏻

Small note for people asking about Upper Room GUV installation. I think the idea of installing X amounts of watts per m3 is a not great idea. If you have goniophotometer measurements on your fixtures and are modeling the whole thing in software for architectural installs- great.
But the problem with saying "two 36w fixtures per room" is that's not the goal- or not a good one. The goal is safe- which means no more than 0.2µW at eye level anywhere in the room, measured on a grid. Maybe that's three 36w fixtures, maybe that's two. It doesn't matter.
Also with concern about ozone and secondary compounds, we should be measuring these as well on installation. All installs need to be focused on staying well within safe limits of those O3/SOC/UCV numbers- not how many joules of energy we are pumping into the upper room.
I know it seems like a bit much, but if you test a lot of random EVs, you're going to crash, one good crash is lost work. It was pretty costly, but it's comfortable enough I don't "cheat" and go without (a lot of people get massive protection that's too much hassle to wear).
By all means, let's talk about trade-offs- since the community feels that repeated attempts to discredit one of the most cost-effective mitigation measures we have is reasonable, and has largely stayed silent.
So let's talk about filtration and airborne microplastics.
Filters, like masks, are usually made of polypropylene fiber.
Early on in the pandemic we realized that face masks presented a risk from inhaled microplastics- microscopic polypropylene that gets lodged in our lungs and stays there. scmp.com/news/china/sci…
Again, exaggerating the "dangers" of GUV on the basis of two very limited studies that have not been replicated is grossly irresponsible. Filtration is not without its own potential, understudied risks but like GUV those risks are far less significant than the pathogens we face.
It is fashionable to disparage GUV because filtration is in vogue in the West so people are not looking at the prospect of their breathless fear-mongering leaving themselves and their children unprotected. But the damage done with little evidence will inevitably cost lives.
However desperate @SmartAirFilters and others are to move their products and designs, sowing Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt about one of the best tools we have is not the way to do it. Were someone to do the same about CR-Boxes the community would shriek in outrage.
More Middle-Eastern food (in case you haven't guessed Kaidi and I eat a lot of that, and Central-Asian😅)
Great service, Han owned/run it seems which normally gets a little side-eye from me but they seem to be running a tight ship and the food and service was fantastic.
