Been thinking about how magic in #DnD / #Pathfinder (High Fantasy, Vancian, "scientific" magic), etc., would influence culture. The more I dig and question, the more frustrated I get with most #worldbuilding. From very high concepts to mundane things, magic changes EVERYTHING...
Let's look at one small (but extremely culturally / economically important) thing: bread. Every culture makes bread, in some respect, whether it's flat, leavened, fried, baked, etc., it's ubiquitious with Human culture on Earth, and therefore probably with sentient ancestries.
The form bread takes is highly dependant on the culture's technologies and cooking equipment. Leavened breads arose because bread was made en masse enough that dough could ferment and release air bubbles from the yeast. A culture without a sedimentary working lower class wouldn't
therefore develop leavened bread, thus would have flat breads most likely. But also, this would occur if a culture had refrigeration before leavening was discovered; or, in lieu of refrigeration, _ice magic_.
A culture that can enchant boxes to cast consistent cold spells on their food would have far slower fermentation, and would therefore probably never manifest leavening in their bread. Likewise, they'd likely have lots of fresh meat saved which could then be cooked into bread, etc
Now, the oven is a pretty simple piece of equipment: it's just a hot room. _BUT_, before the modern era, bread ovens took HOURS to heat up, and then they used the ambient temperature within them to cook the bread, not consistent fire. But if you have a heat spell...?
Suddenly, baking bread is a lot quicker, a lot easier. Add to that the ability to have consistent temperature control, and we're looking at far more sophistocated cooking before the modern era. Soufflé becomes a relatively easy prospect, then.
Not to mention the other huge consideration when baking: container. How do you hold your dough until it is cooked? Is it on a tray, on a stick, in a pan, in a covered dish, etc?

What if you can levitate the dough during the cooking process? Spherical bread with even crusts?
Electricity magic essentially opens up microwave-like cooking in a pre-modern era. Are people cooking "mug cakes" like folks were doing on TikTok et al a few years back?
Sonic magic enables curious vibrations to move through your dough, essentially kneeding it _whilst it is cooking_. Imagine how springy your bagels would be if you could kneed them _as they baked_?!
What about Enlarge or Shrink spells? How does this affect the crumb of the bread? How does it work once digested and the spell wears off? Is this a good way to pack trail rations? Is lambas bread just a Shrunk full loaf of bread?!
(Let's not even get onto the topic of Enlarge / Shrink used in the meat industry, because it would change fucking _everything_.)
We also need to talk about protection spells... People on Earth eat poisonous foods all the time because it gives a little kick from the toxins despite the danger. What if you could just poison yourself fully and then heal it with magic?
Would things like arsenic become desired ingredients? Would we start adding far stronger acids into our foods, pushing past sour and into _scour_ as a flavour profile, if you can just then cast Cure Wounds or wear a ring of Resistance to Acid?
Would restaurants feature personal peril as part of the gastronomic experience? Would death be on the menu, if you knew you'd be ressurected?
Sure, these questions are spiralling away from "bread"... But that's the point! Magic changes _EVERYTHING_. You can't just say "Medieval England but there's Magic" and end there. It would have shifted the game from the get-go...
