A debunking thread of common antimasking talking points:

Fauci, hazmat, "every doctor I know". Image
Fauci said masks don't work in February 2020, in an email?

Actually, he indicated that masks as source control do work.

"Masks are really for infected people to prevent them from spreading infection to people who are not infected..."

So, if you are going to cite this? Image
Welcome to #Masks4All. If we are all wearing masks, then each of us is wearing a mask to control the release of aerosols in the environment.

How many hours a week do you want to advocate for #Masks4All, @paluka ?

In regards to protecting myself wearing a mask - what do you
care what I am doing? Literally, what business is it of yours what I wear?

If I wear a burka for religious reasons?

(Amazing ending to "the girl with green eyes" story. Wow.)

nationalgeographic.com/pages/article/… Image
Or a respirator to protect from ubiquitous dust blowing in from another country?

What business is it of yours?

Antimaskers decried mask wearing as the act of sheeple. When will they finally admit that The Masking Nation are the true independents?

bbc.com/news/world-asi…
We tell stories to each other of the confrontations. The ridicule. The harassment.

And yet we proudly persist - even in the face of the CDC.

Because it takes strength of will to go in the face of peer pressure.

But let's go back to Fauci, and 2020. Because 8 months
later, he co-authored a study explaining the idea of source control for droplets and aerosols.

He also shared that mask mandates reduce transmission in the population.

And shared why RCTs are difficult to do, so observational studies are useful.

jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/… ImageImageImage
So, in science, do we depend on the email sent to a friend by a scientist who was working from his gut?

Or the same scientist after actually researching the issue?

If the former, you are agreeing to #Masks4All. If the latter, #Masks4All and #MaskMandates.
Moving on to "the only way to stop it is with hazmat suits."

Actually, it's not. It is spread by aerosols that have the virii embedded in them.

If only there was a place where they were not wearing haz mat suits, but began wearing better Respiratory Protective Equipment....and
showed a statistically significant decrease in Covid infection.

A 100% reduction in infection.

Ah, turns out that's exactly what happened in the Covid wards of the UK Addenbrooke Hospital.

They began wearing FFP3 (N99) respirators, and showed a 100%

cam.ac.uk/research/news/… Image
reduction.

Finally, "every doctor I know" - do they live in a community ride with community transmission?

Of course they do. That's why the Addenbrooke study carefully separated out the Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI).

To close, every talking point you shared was
actually a point talking in support of #MasksForAll - or #N100forALL.

I would be happy to further help you with framing your advocacy for these movements.

Cheers, @paluka! (Fun gif for those who know what palooka means.)

Respectfully, I disagree.

For the same reason I disagree in regards to HCW mandated masking.

No doctor is an expert on the ventilation in their ward.

Similarly, no school board will be an expert on their ventilation. Neither will parents be.

Without that basic airborne
information, a school with few cases, but extremely bad ventilation may experience superspreading events.

In the US, testing is being driven down politically. Case numbers are artificially low die to our politicians....which leads to not know true risk, even just in case
numbers.

My opposition to this also lies in the historically underfunded classicism AND racism that underlies the US school system.

Lower class schools'admin will have no idea what to do - or even what to look for.

I disagree with many in the masking advocacy community

Taking this up to qt as longer answers.

"When we say 'Failed at the nose', what does that (quantitatively) mean? "

It failed fit testing. Presumably with a noticeable leak around the top of the nose.
"Does the mask (with that leak) now let 100% of the virus through?"

No. The virus is embedded in respiratory aerosols. If you were right next to the person, you would be more likely to get some of those aerosols around your face.

Even then, depending on the size of the leak,
a good portion would hit the respirator and be stopped via the usual 4 processes involved.

If not next to them, air mixes very quickly in a room. Some could end up nowhere near you...rising on our body's thermal plume. Micro air currents could carry them away - or

A thread on CoVid eyes.

Looks like you should schedule an optometrist checkup after getting Covid - the reasons for the blindness are manageable if caught in time.

You know what's not manageable, @bastardspod? Having everyone that's catching Covid schedule appointments.
Some day, @bastardspod, you will do a podcast on @RWalensky - the worst CDC director in history.

But for now?

This thread.

A quick story to start!

But maybe it's just her unfortunate friends?

No.

Remember India? 2021? Nothing new....

@alroker slowly slid away from the center woman below - because she was sitting right next to Guthrie.

Who had just tested positive.

Al suffered from Covid blood clots previously.

This is to introduce a new thread titled, "BLS3 in Real Life."
This piece I have titled,

"Al wishes he was in BLS3 gear."
Original. Not only can you not see the lab worker, but you also cannot see the respiratory aerosols breathed and talked out of Guthrie.

I did not photoshop them out. They are still there.

You just can't see them.

No smell after Covid?..your olfactory bulb could possibly be being nibbled away.

Next tweet the actual thread walking you through the study.

Tweet after that? Why protecting your nose is important. (The aerosols that are most infectious preferentially land in your nose). Image

Thank you @morgfair for being an OG Covid advocate.

We ALL owe her a thank you, because it turns out that she has been fighting the good fight since the beginning.

🧵of her and Dr. Fauci.... Image
The baddies have gotten a hold of this email she sent to Dr. Fauci on February 26, 2020, so please add your voice to say thank you to offset what will be a bunch of silly abuse.

On that day, she offered to reach out to her Twitter followers to get good info out. Image
Dr. Fauci replied. (More zoomed in details next tweets). Image
