Toney has 15 goals and 3 assists this season, takes penalties, has decent underlying stats & is the talisman for his team, so it’s no surprise that he’s a standout captaincy option in a DGW with games against Everton and Southampton.
Compared to Brighton midfielders though, Toney obviously gets 1 point less per goal and no clean sheet point, which should be factored in. Despite that, he’s of course a great option this week, with 2 games in which he could easily end up scoring 2-3 goals in total.
Option 2: Kaoru Mitoma – BHA
Fixtures: lee, CRY
With 5 goals and 2 assists since the restart and coming from a 13-pointer in GW 26, Mitoma is the ‘form pick’, for managers who like basing their decisions on that. His underlying stats are similar to the other Brighton mids…
…and Mitoma is a great player fully capable of converting lower xG-chances as well. Brighton are a fantastic team attacking-wise, they create lots of chances and when they manage to convert them, as they did vs West Ham in GW 26, captaining a Brighton mid can pay off greatly.
Option 3: Solly March – BHA
Fixtures: lee, CRY
March will be a differential captain this week as many FPL managers factor in the GW 26 scores when March blanked & Mitoma/Mac Allister hauled. That shouldn’t be the case though because when looking at the underlying stats for the..
…Brighton mids, March comes out on top. He’s been historically poor when it comes to converting chances though, but as his GW 27 opponents both concede a lot of chances down their left flank (March’s flank) he could be an explosive differential captaincy pick for DGW 27.
Option 4: Alexis Mac Allister – BHA
Fixtures: lee, CRY
The biggest advantage with Mac Allister compared to March/Mitoma is that he takes penalties, and even though the timing of when a team is awarded pens is relatively random, it’s always comfortable to captain a penalty taker.
Mac Allister has gotten lots of chances when playing in the number 10 role and while it’s difficult to guarantee that he plays in that role for the rest of the season, he should start both DGW 27 games there, which makes him an even better captaincy option this week.
Option 5: Single-GW player
There are many great single GW-players this week, with the likes of Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane & of course Erling Haaland having great fixtures. However, despite the possibility that your single GW-captain gets a hattrick…
…it’s obviously much more realistic to expect 1-2 returns. The best thing about captaining a DGW-player instead is that you get 2 chances of catching a haul, in addition to the 4 appearance points that you’re pretty much guaranteed.
My ranking:
1️⃣ Toney
2️⃣ Mac Allister
3️⃣ Mitoma
4️⃣ March
5️⃣ Single GW-players

Fantasypaedia contributor @FPL_Architect is back with his weekly thread!
In this thread, he will be focusing on some players who are getting overlooked because of blanks & doubles and have a decent run of fixtures from GW26 to GW28.
We’re awaiting a definite fitness update on Maddison, but it looks likely that he’ll be ready in time for GW 26, and if so he becomes a great pick. He’s only owned by 4.5% and with great fixtures coming up...
…he’s a decent differential. Good fixtures in GW 26-27, plays in GW 28, and has a DGW in GW 29 as well. Maddison averages an attacking return every 97 mins this season, and he has haul potential in any game. Could see him outscoring Arsenal or even Brighton mids going forward.
Haaland has been one of the deadliest strikers in the world for the last few years, outperforming his xG every single season in the Bundesliga with Dortmund, as this image from Understat reflects –
Haaland is among the top forwards for most attacking metrics in the last year, as can be seen from the comparison table taken from FBRef.
Note the high number of shots taken p90, as well as touches in the penalty area – he is a high-volume shooter and gets on the end of moves.
