I knew about the war from a drunk loadmaster in DC and then my friends invited me to go scud hunting. On Go day I was on the border in a gas station watching the cruise missiles fly over with some local grease monkeys. Strange, unnecessary war. nytimes.com/2023/03/18/wor…
As you can imagine I spent most of my time with Iraqis. They were puzzled why Americans were back. They had been told that they had surrendered to Saddam in the last war. They weren’t anti American at all. There were piles of uniforms everywhere as the army went home.
Bremer fucked all those people. The govt and even pensioners were fucked by the decision to cut off payments and jobs to the Bath party. That cruel and unnecessary decision was the start of the insurgency.
