As I rewatch #StarTrekDiscovery’s second season, here are my mini-reviews! I love a lot of this season!
(Warning: I struggle with the coherence of the Red Angel plot. The nature of it seems to shift mid-way through the season—likely due to showrunner changes.) #StarTrek
“Brother” is gorgeously shot. Production design is intricate and artful. The background of Michael’s beginnings with the Sarek family is intriguing, especially the strange Spock dragon.
Pike quickly commands the screen with ease and integrity and Reno is a quippy addition!
“New Eden” is perfect #StarTrek which adds to the little-seen WWIII story, celebrates our innate desire to seek our knowledge in Jacob, a fascinating discussion of religion and science, clear growth from Burnham and fun ship action with a touching Saru/Tilly scene that is gold!

“Point of Light” echoes within the great tradition of political Klingon stories like “Sins of the Father,” but with many more rapid turns and life-changing decisions too quickly arrived at, IMO. Love the Ash/Michael scene. I love Tilly’s arc, especially with Michael’s support.

“An Obol for Charon” masterfully tells one coherent story about our desire to leave a legacy, have our story be heard through Discovery’s encounter with the Sphere and Saru’s personal journey as the only Kelpian in Starfleet. Saru/Michael and Tilly/Stamets are compelling!

“Saints of Imperfection” brings back Culber and takes the crew into the Mycelial Network where the Je’Sep and Culber see one another as monsters when neither are. Classic #StarTrek—bridging the gap between planes of existence—between people—with empathy and conversation.

“So—I uh—know I should hardly be surprised by people appearing in my quarters,” Pike begins. “Especially when your older self from an alternate future pays you a visit, but—why are you here again?”
Sisko grins.

Sisko swallows the ice cold water and sets the glass on Pike’s counter. “Well, I’m—not quite sure.”
“You’re not sure,” Pike repeats.
“I—exist outside—uh,” Sisko says, the hilarity of his statement preceding the words. “Time.”
“I’m—sorry,” Pike says.

Pike grabs the handle of the pan, flicking his wrist and tossing the steak strips, sliced onions and peppers. The harsh buzz of steam fills the kitchen.
“I—got a glimpse of my future once,” Pike says. “It’s not what I ever imagined for myself.”
“That’s an interesting question,” Michael replies.
Janeway notices her stiffening face and the dryness of her voice. “I can tell you that the question itself is an answer, isn’t it?”
A thin grin pulls apart Michael’s lips. “It is—actually.”

“I suppose I should attempt an answer first,” Janeway says.
Michael nods.
“So, my father—well, first you must imagine this—figure—the figure of immense gravitas and—authority,” Janeway says. “He was nothing less than—the incarnation of Starfleet service.”

“Ahhh, I know exactly what you mean,” Michael says. “Sarek was always—the immaculate Vulcan—at least that was his goal.”
“Oh, yes, you had the pleasure of being raised by two fathers,” Janeway says. “I’m interested in how they both shaped your command.”
