Today, we filed an amended complaint in Penebaker v. Hitt, the first lawsuit of its kind in the country to hold the 12 individuals - including Wisconsin's 10 fraudulent electors -
accountable for their illegal, unprecedented, and profoundly anti-democratic actions in attempting to override Wisconsin's certified election results in 2020. lawforward.org/penebaker-v-hi…
We originally filed Penebaker v. Hitt 10 months ago.
It seeks a judicial declaration that the defendants acted unlawfully when they falsely assumed the office of the presidential electors for the state of WI,
an injunction to prevent them from serving as electors again, and asks the court to impose statutory fines and monetary damages.
The complaint we filed today reflects what we've learned, thanks in large part to the #Jan6Committee, about how the conduct in Wisconsin relates to the national effort to overturn the will of the people in the 2020 election -
and we wanted to ensure this new, relevant information is in our complaint; hence the amended filings.
Today's submission does not change any course of action but adds finer detail to the facts of what transpired.

Today marks the 2-year anniversary of when 10 Republican fraudulent electors met in Madison and broke the law in an attempt to sabotage the election - and they have faced no consequences.
When someone plans and recruits participants for a set of crimes, we prosecute the architects and the foot soldiers. The same goes for every attempt to overturn the will of the people.
A crowd of insurrectionists attacked our country on Jan. 6, and the politicians who promised they could illegally overthrow our votes are responsible for what happened and must be held to account.
“We are stunned by the U.S. Supreme Court’s move to interrupt the administration of Wisconsin’s elections at this late date.
This is an unprecedented and political decision that runs afoul of the Court’s own doctrine that meddling by federal courts on the eve of an election is inappropriate.
To be clear, this decision does not force the Wisconsin Supreme Court to draw different maps.
On January 6, some conservatives in office turned their backs on America by inciting armed right-wing militants to attack our Capitol and then tried to block an investigation to cover up their role in this violence.
As we learn more about the planning of this attack, death threats against elected leaders, and violence against public officials reveal, some conservative lawmakers - including some in WI - are continuing to spread lies about our election to keep their base engaged and enraged.
And now those same people who rioted on the Capitol and their supporters are trying to use their false claims to create new barriers to voting in future elections.
