I understand that @JustStop_Oil have put paint on the front of Barclays bank.
Good citizens of Leeds.
This may not be your cup of yorkshire tea but do remember that @Barclays are the worst climate offending bank in Europe by financially supporting fossil fuel expansion.
@antonioguterres said that ‘We are on the highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator’ Barclays are profiteering from a climate breakdown. A future which in all probability, and without major systemic change, will mean that Yorkshire will face mass suffering.
@JustStop_Oil are simply seeking to stop the government from going against ethics and justice by opening new fossil fuel infrastructure. They want a liveable future for our children and grandchildren. So do I.
For those against such action. Given the reality of climate breakdown what actions do you think are reasonable and effective in drawing attention and bringing the necessary change? This may not be it? but what is? We must do something. I’ll be joining the #TheBigOne
As an interesting aside I am told that another group were protesting @Barclays before @JustStop_Oil turned up. If I wasn’t n hospital I would have been at this other protest which stands against Barclays financially supporting and apartheid and militarised violence.

In the words of @antonioguterres UN SecGeneral ‘We are on the highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator’ and ‘We face a direct existential threat’.
Already the worlds most vulnerable are suffering due to extreme weather, drought, floods.
I’m a leeds resident and work and raise my family in Leeds. Today @JustStop_Oil are planning on slow walking the roads of Leeds to traffic delays and disruption. There aim in for the the UK government to stop expanding the fossil fuel industry.
Here are my thoughts.
(1) We need to wake up the hard truth that we really are in a climate and ecological emergency. In the words of the @antonioguterres ‘humanity is on the highway to to climate hell with its foot on the accelerator’
We are currently 1.2 degrees above pre industrial temperatures and heading into a world, even if we stick to governmental targets of 2.4 degrees. This is a world of mass migration, mass starvation and societal collapse.
@churchofengland@gregorycentreCX@JustinWelby@selvaratnam@MarkPowley1 (2) We need to be prepared in the coming years for a huge increase in CLIMATE GRIEF. We need churches which offer both hope and opportunities to lament. We need to be wary of hopium (a way of being which distracts from reality)
