A bit of history-
After independence, India started using Swiss developed ICF rail coaches from 1955. For many decades until the 90s, coach technology was not upgraded. ICF coaches were heavier, slower and less safe. Accidents over IR saw huge casualties.
(contd.)
In late 1990s, India adopted German made Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, which were still not the latest technology (developed in 1988) but were faster, lighter & safer. By the time we decided to convert all trains to LHB, the technology was over 25 years old! India was in… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
In 2015, the decision was taken to bring in train sets. After exploring various options, India decided to manufacture its own train set and the first train-18 was manufactured in 2018 at a cost of roughly Rs 100 crore. In trial run it achieved speed of 180 kmph. (Contd)
Why is #VandeBharatExpress superior to ICF/LHB trains?
Higher acceleration & deceleration will improve efficiency, punctuality & movement across big station yards. Regenerative braking.
No need to attach/detach locomotives/coaches, perform time taking shunting operations (contd)
Why is #VandeBharatExpress superior to ICF/LHB trains?
Easier to maintain.
Faster- with current commercial speed of 160 kmph (with future enhancement of tracks)
Ability to run on tracks with steep gradients without need of additional banker engines.
Engine cab on both ends… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Soon, IR will start manufacturing sleeper #VandeBharatExpress as well, which will completely revolutionise overnight/ long distance train travel in India.
The decision to move to train sets was a gamechanger for passenger transport in India. Credit goes to all those involved in… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

16 August, 1946- Direct Action Day or the Great Calcutta Killings. On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, let's not forget the genocide perpetrated by Muslim league exactly one year before independence to force partition on religious lines upon the people of India. (Thread)
In 1940, Lahore Session of the Muslim League, the resolution to create Pakistan was passed. In the next few years, the demand gained popularity in some sections. 1946, Cabinet Mission was constituted by the British in which many included Congress and ML participated.
By July 1946, the differences between Congress and Muslim league started widening and Cabinet Mission Plan began to fall apart. Jinnah and ML feared that Demand for Pakistan might not be accepted and Congress may form interim government. (Contd)
On 14th August, Saturn will be in opposition which means it will be closest (824 million miles) & brightest from earth. Saturn or Shani was of great interest to ancient Hindu astronomers like Aryabhatta, Latadeva, Varahamihira & Brahmagupta (Thread)

Saturn or Shani appears in several hindu astronomical texts such as 'Aryabhatiya' by Aryabhatta, 'Romaka Siddhanta', 'Pancha Siddhantika' by Varahamihira, 'Khandakhadyaka' by Brahmagupta. (contd.)
Both Surya Siddhanta and Siddhanta Shiromani estimated Saturn's sidereal revolution time quite accurately to around 10,765 days. Modern calculations estimate it to be 10,759 days. (Contd.)
On #KargilVijayDiwas, let's look at the destructive ideas of Chaudhry Rahmat Ali- one of the earliest to coin the acronym 'Pakistan'. In this thread, I assert that 2 nation theory was not just a religious division but a denial of India's nationhood, civilisation & ancient culture
In 1933, Rahmat Ali wrote a pamphlet 'Now or Never' addressed to the Round Table Conference asserting that India was never a home of one single nation or having one common history. It was created for the first time by British. Sounds similar to ideas of some people, doesn't it?
Rahmat Ali went to Emmanuel College, Cambridge (same as me) and it was here when he wrote about creation of Pakistan and other smaller states through balkanisation of India. He often compared India to Europe and asserted that it constituted many different nationalities.
