I grew up in Bucks - it’s always been conservative - MP @SteveBakerHW

Chair of the Conservatives @GregHands was in the same year at school

I’m not a left wing activist

I’m a GP of 30yrs that sees the needs & cares

The Govt have got the #NHS so wrong

Time to listen #NHSCrisis Image

RISHI SUNAK’S - PAST MEDICAL HISTORY

Mother a Pharmacist had her own business

Father a GP a well funded GP practice

It should mean he knows the #NHS

But TODAYS pharmacists may be working in Boots, GPs struggling with workload & funding, & Rishi’s life would be different
🧵1 Image
Things have changed a lot in the past 40yrs

Drs & pharmacists find themselves with large student debts, lower pay & a much more uncertain future

Income for GPs has reduced 30-40% in real terms

A pharmacist is likely to be in a large multiple pharmacy chain not an owner

🧵2 Image
Doctors & pharmacists are choosing different paths to Rishi’s parents in the 80’s & 90’s

Instead of opening the UK to talent, the current pay and conditions, have lead to an increasing exodus of talented medics

Australia, Qatar, Canada, Saudi & NZ opening doors

DOCTORS ARE LEAVING UK

We live in a global market for health care workers

If the UK continues to undervalue Doctors they will leave in increasing numbers

Pay, conditions & workload is a RETENTION issue

THE UK IS DYING

Since 2010 there has been a flattening of life expectancy

You are more likely to die younger in more deprived areas

250000 people have died earlier than expected taking away Covid deaths & compared to other EU nations

🧵1

THE UK IS DYING

The spend on health in the UK has risen particularly during the pandemic

However it is lower than comparable nations

The austerity affecting Health & Social care is having a major effect

🧵2
#NHS
THE UK IS DYING

The excess deaths in UK are multi-factorial

Many waiting treatments / investigations

Delays in 999 transfers & A&E treatments

Increase in morbidity due to lack of treatment

GP Partners

GPs earn a fantastic income compared with most

But it’s been the about the same since 2004

Maybe that’s fine

But have invested in Primary Care & continued to provide care by employing more staff, supplementing costs & on average lost 40% income

#teamGP Thank you!
GP - Salaried income

This has increased yearly but lags far behind inflation

There is not enough funding in General Practice to pay staff in line with inflation

Partners have subsidised any increases
GP Funding

This has reduced compared with increase in demand

Much of NHS work has been moved to the community

But funding hasn’t followed the work

Some will be planning to call the GP for an appt

Many will end up on hold or queuing outside

1.4 million/day consult a GP practice

Since 2015 we have lost 2000 GPs - enough for 1m patients

NO GP WANTS THIS

FUND & SUPPORT GPs or LOSE THEM

#GPCrisis Blame MPs not GPs
GP APPOINTMENTS

Despite the pressure & reduced numbers GPs have provided more appts than ever

39% are seen in a day & 82% within 2 weeks of being booked

More Face to Face than before 2019 but many more options, with tele, e-consults & text added

GPs can’t provide more Image
With GP numbers falling & no support from NHSE & Government

Practices are failing, some are closing becoming unviable with Partners forced to hand back contracts

Without significant change 20% of Practices are potentially at risk Image
