good morning☀️happy Sunday.
Today on #Insiders are TSP senior corro Karen Middleton, 9fax (Age) Indigenous affairs journo Jack Latimore and murdoch journo Clare Armstrong. The interview is with Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price.
this thread will not be amplifying federal Liberal Party/Country Liberal Party/National Party/Coalition lies. #Insiders
opening spiel: lost a by-election, lost a shadow minister, so Dutton headed to Alice Springs to open a “new” (well canvassed extraction strategy) political brawl. #Insiders
he wants to send in more police, Speers tells us, about the Dutton campaign. No mention of actual NT police position on violence in this one town, which is “we can not arrest our way out if this”. #Insiders
the montage is on violence in this one town. So irresponsible. The soundtrack is a blackfulla band but I do not recognise the song. Clips of Senator McCarthy, Aunty Pat Anderson, Prof Langton and Linda Burney pushing back on theDutton campaign. #Insiders
#MakingNews is a murdoch report on launching the No campaign ads “featuring ordinary Indigenous Australians” including Warren Mundine and Senator Price. Report is by James Campbell. #Insiders
editorial: Speers speculates that some Liberal Party politicians are perhaps hoping that the federal Liberal Party room might shift to a conscience vote position on the referendum. #Insiders
panel also starts with Mbarntwe Alice Springs with Armstrong. She says Dutton has been there last year and twice this year and he is more concerned about his own political position than people in the town [abridged] #Insiders
on actual reports and evidence, Latimore points to the narratives created to justify the NTER, he says FIFO workers solicit young Aboriginal girls with beads and trinkets (eg swags) and the alcohol bans were effective. #Insiders
it is not a new problem, says Middleton, it is a low socio-economic jurisdiction (actually there is a lotta wealth in white hands in the NT) and there is increasing evidence that this is being exploited for political reasons, she says. #Insiders
longer clip of the local ABC reporter asking for evidence of increases in CSA rates. We get the full grotesquery of Dutton wallowing in descriptions of violence. Armstrong says Senator McCarthy asked Dutton to report any CSA cases of which he is aware to police. #Insiders
stats from the AIHW which publishes a child removal “protection” report every year.

NB More Aboriginal children are moved for neglect and emotional abuse - in circumstances indistinguishable from acute poverty - than substantiated sexual abuse.
#Insiders
to whether a First Nations Voice to Parliament will make a difference. Middleton says there is an argument that it will or something like that. Promises of money? Latimore says nobody is denying there is crime in the area. Armstrong gives the RC call a run. #Insiders
we need more data, Armstrong and Speers agree. (Wrong. We need more self-determination.)
Middleton runs the Maley thesis, that Dutton as a police is right across police as a solution to sexual violence. (Police have always had resources to address sexual violence.) #Insiders
Speers notes that the police says they can not arrest their way out of this. Well spotted, David. #Insiders
interview. Senator Nampijinpa Price opens with her local cred. Asked if she is aware of child victims being returned to sexual abusers, the Senator says foster carers contact her about kids being returned to kin. I think we are talking white foster carers here. #Insiders
the Coalition position is clearly for another RC. Senator Nampijinpa Price says she has been campaigning on this for a long time - to no avail, apparently - and that it is *the media* making it all about Dutton. #Insiders
she has no reason to believe that [foster] carers are making up stories about kids being returned/placed with kin, says Senator Nampijinpa Price, and that some of these foster parents are themselves police. #Insiders
another Royal Commission to listen to the foster parent-police because they want their voices to be heard on Indigenous kids who are not revered the way Grace Tame is listened to [abbr] - Senator Nampijinpa Price. #Insiders
what needs to happen? In circumstances where human rights are [not] being upheld we need to remove the kinship aspect, says the Senator, we should not be putting kids back with kin. #Insiders
they have bipartisan support for money in child protection, Price asserts, and she could get behind a referendum on upholding human rights of kids regardless of racial heritage, says Price. Does she support the idea of a local Voice? #Insiders
yes a regional and remote Voice says Price. An all-Indigenous voice? That’s the idea, says Price. But you oppose Indigenous-only structures? asks Speers. Well the remote area people (lists remote community place names) are different to city people says Price. #Insiders
but how would the regional and remote voices get through to Canberra? Would it be thru a national Voice? Nampijinpa Price cites her research at the CIS and says she always supports and fights for regional and remote voices. #Insiders
your colleague Senator Liddle says the local voices will need to be heard in Canberra thru a national body do you agree? Nampijinpa Price cites the non-Uluṟu Morrison-Wyatt process, which she calls Calma-Langton, on legislated voices. #Insiders
should there be a minister for Indigenous Affairs? Yes. Why? Well she is all about working hard and fighting for people. Nothing on the public money and campaign comms with Morrison and Nampijinpa Price in May last year. #Insiders
back to Panel. The latest mail on her role? Maybe an envoy, she is a first term senator. Middleton walks thru the Liberal Party room confusion on legislated local, regional Voices and whether they really oppose a [legislated] national voice (the Morrison position) #Insiders
Dutton can not really support a [legislated] national voice when he wants to campaign a for the No vote in the referendum by shouting Canberra voice [paraphrased] (not that hypocrisy and inconsistency are priorities for Coalition politicians - Ed) #Insiders
clip of Leeser. Did he have a choice given his stance? asks Speers. Who? asks Latimore 😂we discuss race and policy, Armstrong cites abstudy, Middleton says we are already divided by race. #Insiders
the constitution already mentions race, Latimore points out, and Aboriginal people are already impacted by government policy [abbr] and off we go to a clip of Prof Twomey. #Insiders
she has no problem with Cravens words, says Twomey, but losing Aboriginal constituencies means losing the referendum. We do not want this to be divisive *or* toothless, says Latimore. #Insiders
missing from all the chitter chatter about constitutional experts is any mention of Prof Davis who from memory told the inquiry she did not want to amplify misinformation about the proposed constitutional amendment. #Insiders
aged care? The need for more nurses to keep election promise and I missed the rest sorry. Budget? Middleton provides a bit of cost of living-interest rate filler and says the economy is a complicated beast. #Insiders
cost of living and rental availability, 60-80 people turning up for every vacancy, a lot of people are struggling and there are still tax cuts, says Latimore. #Insiders
#TalkingPictures is up. Coach is a back to you Speersy you mongrel man. #Insiders
#FinalObs 1 is Armstrong sending well wishes to Senator Dodson and self promotes (sic) her interview with Gurindji women Rosie Smiler. #Insiders
#FinalObs 2 is Latimore on the First Peoples Assembly of Victoria elections and Yoorrook Justic Commission kicking off its hearings on child removal (“protection”) and criminal punishment (“justice”). #Insiders
#FinalObs 3 is Middleton on confusion around whether Albanese would attend a NATO event. #Insiders
the outtake is a Leeser blooper #Insiders
this has been another edition of watching #Insiders so you don’t have to👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼

mythical parade of meritless cases? Was that the phrase? Anyway, Bret Walker SC has no time for the Craven-Leeser thesis.
hilarious argument from Craven. He says his negative Nancy nonsense is relevant because Prof Twomey and “Bob French” (maaaate) are talking about it. Which they do, when asked, to refute him, but hey whatever. It is just a parliamentary inquiry on changing the constitution.
floodgates fallacies are fallacies, Greg.

starting to look like this is the week press gallery journalists catch up on one of the more disgusting Liberal Parry comms strategies.
stand by for that seamless CPG journo about-turn. From laundering and amplifying partisan Liberal Party comms to condescendingly “explaining” something that has been noticed and critiqued on twitter for days, weeks, months, years.
by “catch up” I mean “concede”. Press gallery journos eventually slow down their promotion of Liberal Party campaign comms when multiple people with considerable public standing repeatedly and clearly push back. THEN partisan parroting becomes untenable.

good morning☀️happy Sunday! Today on #Insiders are ABC radio host Raf Epstein, 9fax (smh/Age) columnist Niki Savva and 9fax (AFR) politician corro Phil Coorey. The interview is with LOTO Peter Dutton.
not sure when the ABC will cut to #Insiders but right now we are live-streaming a PM and Doyle presser from the seat of Aston.
okay here we go. Opening spiel: “Labor makes by-election history by” - wait for it - “taking a prize Liberal seat”. They still can not compute that no seat belongs to a political party.

the first Speers metric for the night is 'a more normal Liberal margin'.
the first Karvelas misspeak for teh night is saying there was a huge swing to Alan Tudge. She meant to Mary Doyle. Easy mistake to make when only one of the two is actually standing tonight.
"people can actually name her" - political journalist on Mary Doyle after calling the swing to Mary Doyle last year "Alan Tudge".

good morning☀️happy Sunday! Today on #Insiders are ABC referendum corro Dan Bourchier, 9fax (AFR) columnist Jennifer Hewett and 9fax (smh/Age) senior politics corro David Crowe. The interview is with federal Attorney General Mark Dreyfus.
reminder - TO LABOR - that the smh editorialised for Perottet, all corporate media outlets campaigned for the Coalition, and John Howard was exhumed as usual.
opening spiel: Chris Minns wins. Yet another defeat for the Liberals. Continental red-out. Speers shoe-horns a “Peter Dutton is being warned” into the spiel but not who is doing this warning. Perhaps it is Bevan. #Insiders

boringest booth ever no pics
we did get a transphobe. He shouted at me that I can not even tell him what a foimoile is and then shouted at the indistinguishable Liberal and Labor dudes that they could not tell him what a foimoile or a moile is either.
then the Liberal dude put on a wide eyed act and said does anyone know what that was about so I explained that the transphobic voter had bought what the Liberal Party candidate selected by Morrison and Perrottet for Warringah last year was selling and surely he remembered.
