Imagine you were a veteran psychological warfare specialist on a mission to topple the government of the United States for an enemy foreign power.

To accomplish the mission you would have to commit a lot of crimes, including literal Treason.🧵

Once you commit crimes towards your goal, you would be in an actual *race* between getting caught — and succeeding in your overall mission. It’s existential and there’s no turning back from it.

This dynamic is valuable to understand when trying to decipher disinformation.

If you were a criminal traitor in the process of attempting to overthrow the government you would want to do two basic things:
— Move as fast as possible toward the goal
— Destroy your enemies / avoid getting caught

You would be at war — in a race for your own life.

To avoid accountability for a large, ongoing criminal enterprise devoted to the overthrow of American democracy, you would need to infiltrate and corrupt members of law enforcement, the intelligence community, as well as local, state and federal governments.

In a race between causing a collapse of American society and going to prison for Treason, you would need to make sure the press ignores you as much as possible.

You would want them to think you’re just crazy, just doing it for t-shirt money, or just too confusing to bother with.

If anyone got too close to exposing you, you would need to make sure to discredit and silence them. And you would need to make it scary and painful for anyone else to pay attention to you at all.

You would need to punish any heretics severely and blame your victims.

In short, if you were in a race for your life with the goal of toppling American democracy while avoiding being caught, you would want to create a “blind spot” to hide from your own crimes, so everyone around you to gets blamed instead.
