A provocative #DavesCarIDService salute to the 100th birthday of the world's greatest pinup, the late Bettie Page, born April 22, 1923. Here demonstrating the impressive cargo capacity of a 1950-51 DeSoto.
I hadn't planned on a car ID session today due to various holy Lonestar Round Up automotive rituals, but inclement weather means my pain = your gain. If you'd like to get an ID on an old family pic or such, please mind the spirit of this thing: Image
Lucky you, it's a Bettie Page twofer today! It's picnic time for Bettie and her 1947-48 Chevy Fleetmaster sedan. Watch out for fire ants!
Holy moly! Grandpa's vehicle here is incredibly rare, and semi-keeping with a Bettie Page theme: that there's a 1947-50 Playboy convertible, of which fewer than 100 were ever made. Ring the first-time-make ID bell!
*it was real, and spectacular: the subcompact Playboy Motor Car Corp. was started in early postwar Buffalo as a competitor to Crosley (without much success). The top hat/ white gloves/cane nose emblem let gawkers know you were a motorist of distinction. ImageImage
Tiki-licious! Shades of 007 intrigue, as Grandpa's Jamaican supper club looks like the kind of place James Bond would dodge poisoned darts from Doctor No's henchmen. The sinister sedan behind the Mar Vista wall is a 1942 Chevy Fleetmaster Deluxe.
Newlyweds Uncle Pat & Aunt Beans are ready to rocket off to their honeymoon in a 1964 Plymouth Fury 2 door hardtop, hopefully with the 426 Max Wedge or fire-breathing 426 Hemi.

What a splendid image we have here. I've often noted how mature high schooler looked in days of yore, but note how these grade school girls already look matronly; behind them is a 1940 Chevy Master Deluxe.
Took some triangulation here, but I'm pretty confident that the young lad captured mid-booger-pick is standing on the running board of a 1937 Oldsmobile coupe.
A fine bit of WW2 history here. Nope, not an Auto Union; Grandpa's GI buddy's sporty roadster is, believe it or not, a Ford. In particular a 1937 Ford Eifel. Originally made by Ford's German subsidiary, but by 1936 made in Hungary & Denmark.
*here's a better view of one - bears a striking (if miniaturized) resemblance to its American cousin. ImageImage
Some wild Victorian girls off to create havoc in a... hmm, that's a tough question. I think a ~1908 National Model N, with iffy confidence. If Canada, I'd venture a 1908-10 Ford T touring; Ford made some right hand drive Ts for Canada.
Grandpa wants to know what hell you're looking at, punk, leaning against his 1935-36 Ford coupe.
The invading space alien being guarded by the two kittycats is a 1958 Imperial, one of the most delightfully weird cars ever designed. (ht @dudefebreeze)
*shades of an iconic Austin sign, by Daniel Johnson: Image
The core of the Big Red Machine outside Rivers Stadium in Cincy, and Johnny Bench is flashing a subtle bird to Pete Rose on the side mirror of a 1970-71 Lincoln Continental Mark III. (ht @MattWelch)

Grandma says "home James" to chauffeur Grandpa, in what I believe is a circa 1919 Studebaker Six.
Image is too rough for a dead-certain ID, but tiered cowl-hood makes me suspect a 1915-16 Ford Model T touring.
These two gal pals are puckering up in front of a 1940 Ford, or possibly Mercury. (ht @Ranadicus)

How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm, after they've seen Paree?

Doughboy Gramps gives a homecoming salute, with a 1915-16 Ford Model T touring back to the right.
Right smack in the Malibu heyday of the Frankie & Annette Muscle Beach Blanket Bingo Party craze, and indeed red car is a 1960-64 Chevy Corvair flattop 4 door (though not really that rare).
*fun story: Samuel Z. Arkoff, the creator and producer of all of those Beach Party movies for American International (as well as numerous outlaw biker/ horror/ blaxpoitation pics) was a Jewish kid from Fort Dodge. Iowa.
**you may remember him from such classics as Blacula, The Thing With Two Heads, Ghost in the Invisible Bikini, Dr Goldfoot & the Bikini Machine, Hell's Angels on Wheels, and Scream Blacula, Scream.

Top THAT, Spielberg.
Brian, Lee, and Slim Jim are are pouting with a 1957 Oldsmobile (L) and 1956 Chevy Bel Air (R). Brian Setzer is quite a notable hot rod guy in his own right.
Let's move on to some street & wilderness sightings: these Baylor students dare to be different in a rat rod cobbled together from (I think) 1923ish Dodge body, tube frame, Ford and flathead. Front wheels are 33-35 Ford KH, rear 33-35 Ford truck.
Surprise! Not a VW Type 3, but a 1968ish Fiat 850 Sport Coupe.
26-27 Ford Model T touring, cut down into a speedster/ hillclimber.
all 3 are 1947-65 Willys Jeep items: #1 pickup, #2 Jeepster wagon, and #3 frame (1954-62).

Another surprise not-VW, a 1958-68 NSU Sport-Prinz.
1959 Ford Galaxie 2 door hardtop, sporting 1958 Dodge Lancer hubcaps.
Sorry folks, reached my bag limit for today. Keep those great vintage family photos coming in, and I'll be back next weekend to solve more automotive mysteries, Until then, Happy Motoring!

Sorry to be such a car tease today, so here’s some stuff I can share: last of the red-hot Edsels, a survivor 1960 2 dr hardtop. # 1800-something of 2800 final year Edsels, and 1 of 250 or so 2 dr hardtops; towing a 1960 Comet “canned ham” camper. ImageImageImageImage
Attention @tedryan64 - can you determine the manufacturing date from door VIN plate (ends in 1869)? I told the owner I would try to track it down.
1931 Ford Model A roadster, running an electric motor. Sacrilege? Naw, this model is plentiful, and the one here has been in the same family 60 years, until recently with the OG 4-banger flathead. Image

oh lordy, did I ever learn about a mind-blowing barn find car this weekend. Sadly I am temporarily sworn to secrecy.
to be clear, it wasn't me who found it. But when it emerges it'll be international news, and not just among car people.
I've already said too much

I believe I speak for all Iowa Hawkeye fans in saying they should emphatically (and politely) decline any invitation to White House. LSU won, that honor is singularly theirs.
Please be advised that literally no one from the U of Iowa or their fan base has in any way lobbied or whined or even suggested they should get a participation trophy photo op at the White House.
I will also note the U of Iowa is the first state U in America to admit students without respect to race or gender, all the way to its founding in 1847.

neat build (by Jon Sarkisyan / S-Klub) but body is fiberglass, and only part from a MB 300 SL is dashboard. Modifying a real '55 300 SL roadster like this would be sorta financial suicide
don't get me wrong, if someone had the cojones to take a stock '55 300 SL roadster (price ~$1.3M) and modify it thusly I would be standing up & saluting them
There are certain cars- for example 1920-40 Fords, Harley ULs - where the most valuable examples are hot rodded/ customized. The Benz here is a pretty valuable car, but nowhere near price of a stock version. Probably a profitable build, but only b/c a replica body.
