A bill in Brazil is rapidly lurching toward approval that would vest the government more power to control social media than any country in the democratic world.

We'll report on it tonight on @SystemUpdate_: it empowers the state to decree Truth, and censor/punish dissent to it. Image
The bill would create something similar to what Homeland Security tried to implement with its own Ministry of Truth and #Resistance fanatic @wiczipedia.

But Brazil's bill makes even that extremist effort seem mild. And Europe is looking to Brazil to see how far they can go.
I've repeatedly reported on the radical censorship powers seized by Brazil's Supreme Court - one so extreme that even the NYT and AP expressed grave concern. I wrote about the multiple ways this law is dangerous for @folha - here's the English version:

Here's the January @AP article on the bizarre spectacle that the Brazilian left has united behind a judge they long considered an enemy and denounced as a fascist: because he's now censoring their adversaries. Read about the dangers far beyond Brazil:

Exactly. Liberals find Hannity totally unthreatening because he plays the standard media role: he's a GOP loyalists, supports Biden's proxy war in Ukraine, and unlike Tucker - who was the highest rated cable host among young Dems - speaks only to old Republicans with GOP dogma:
In 2003, liberals were furious that the only steadfast anti-war TV host - Phil Donahue - was fired by MSNBC despite its highest ratings.

There are a couple hosts skeptical of the proxy war in Ukraine (all on Fox), but removing Tucker got rid of the most vocal.

Also key: Image
Here's Vox today on why the establishment wasn't threatened by Hannity or others who spew GOP establishment ideology (including supporting Biden's proxy war).

They saw Tucker as unique because he was one of the only actual dissidents on TV:

There is no comparing these two stories.

One was the most-watched cable news host in the history of the medium.

The other was someone who - despite having one of the most powerful corporate brands promoting him - couldn't get anyone watching him or interested in what he says.
One reason there's so much hatred among left-liberal media types toward Tucker is petty jealously: that goes without saying. They always hate most those who succeed in journalism.

But he's also hated by that crowd because he holds up a mirror to the failures of their heroes. Image
Left-liberals don't mind Hannity because he's a standard-issue Republican: they're comfortable with those who stay in their partisan lane.

Tucker was uniquely threatening because he vocally opposed US militarism while left-liberal heroes voted to fund Biden's proxy wars. And: Image

Tucker was the cable host who most:

* Opposed US proxy war in Ukraine;

* Denounced CIA, FBI and DHS for its systemic lies and corruption;

* Devoted himself to a pardon for Julian Assange;

* Objected to regime change efforts in Cuba;

* Criticized Trump Admin's militarism. ImageImageImageImage
From 8pm to 9pm on Fox, there was extreme, even fundamental, disagreements between Tucker and Hannity on those key issues - the kind of internal debate unthinkable on any other network: in lockstep.

I'd wager the new 8pm host will be far more aligned with Hannity: standard GOP.
I'm not making claims, yet, on what caused this separation. I'm just noting: the removal of Tucker means the elimination of the only real, sustained dissent on US militarism, the US Security State and more 👆(Laura & Jesse Waters are the only others in prime-time near that).

The excuse that the 2020 election would not have been affected had CIA, Dems and corporate media not lied about the Hunter Biden laptop is laughable -- in part because nobody can prove this counter-factual, more so because the CIA, Dems and media were desperate to discredit it:
The hegemonic force in US politics is the union of left-liberal Dems, the US Security State, neocons, and the corporate media.

The lies they jointly spread about the Biden laptop is one vivid example, and thus condition their followers to ignore it:

Obama's CIA Director and ardent Hillary supporter Michael Morell admitted: the reason 51 former senior intelligence officials issued a false letter about the Biden laptop was because the Biden campaign/Blinken requested it.

What % of Dems do you think are even aware of this? Image

Peter Singer, the Princeton bioethicist, has a NYT op-ed today documenting that one of the easiest and most effective ways to alleviate climate threats is to cease consuming animal products from filthy and morally repugnant industrialized factory farms.

nytimes.com/2023/04/22/opi…
There are few things more grotesquely sanctimonious than left-liberals sermonizing about the the climate crisis, all while refusing to make even small life sacrifices for it.

That's because, in that culture, the least valued metric are personal actions.

Left-liberals have created an entire intellectual framework that tells themselves that the best way to judge the character of others is through hashtags they post, slogans they chant, what Party they vote for -- everything *except* how one lives their life. That leads to this: Image
