Tucker's "insight" was that millions of Americans basically have David Duke's opinions, but want it packaged in a slightly more palatable way so they can tell their grandkids they aren't racist.
But that wasn't Tucker's idea. David Duke had that idea before him!
"Take KKK opinions and package them as mainstream conservatism" is a grift that goes back to Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, etc. Trump is just the latest iteration and Tucker was ripping him off. There's nothing novel or creative in what Tucker does.
Oof, I see the worst tendencies of some #Resistance tweeters coming out, including elaborate and fatalistic speculation that this is somehow good for Tucker. It is not. And honestly, I think he's too lazy to run for president.
More from me later, but liberals shouldn't mistake Tucker's popularity for talent. MAGA is not a discerning crowd. They'll take any half-wit with a microphone who will validate their racism. It's not any fancier than that.
Remember: Tucker only got his slot because the pompous windbag who had it before him sexually harassed women until it caught up with him. That's the problem with narcissistic personality disorder. It's appealing to MAGA audiences, but it makes for hostile work environments.

My thesis is different than the headline, rewarding those who actually read: "Still, it's important not to overrate what Carlson's leaving means for Fox News. Fundamentally, nothing has really changed for the network."
The Proud Boys trial (maybe) is winding down. The defense case went poorly for one simple reason: Proud Boy egos are too big to even fake remorse effectively.
It's the larger problem with MAGA: They'd rather lose everything than admit they were wrong. salon.com/2023/04/24/ego…
Why to read this 2 minute article past headlines: Don't you want the juicy details of Proud Boys melting down on the stand? Also, I tie in the Fox News settlement and the GOP determination to re-nominate Trump. It's all part of the same MAGA delusion.
"The outsized egos that characterize MAGA America will not allow Trump supporters to admit they were wrong. Not even when the costs of refusing to back down are spiraling."
I continue to be perplexed by all the anger and disappiontment at Dominion. This lawsuit was never going to save us. I do get why people crave a swift and simple solution to the Fox problem, because the actual cause of our problems seem insurmountable. salon.com/2023/04/19/the…
I wrote about this Monday. I hope people pay attention. Fox is the way it is because millions of people crave a network that will validate the lies they hear on social media. Even if Fox died, as they worried in text, someone else would fill that role.
Fox News is the symptom of the larger problem, which is a huge chunk of mostly elderly white people with a lot of money and power have gone full fascist. And the institutions of the GOP, including Fox, have reshaped themselves to serve that movement.
Morning! There will be more soon from me on the Fox News story. In the meantime, enjoy this column analyzing why Ron DeSantis is in a silly pissing match with Disney.
No spoilers, but let's just say it's not because it helps him politically.
"People like DeSantis continue to benefit from the rarely-questioned assumption that no one who went to Harvard or Yale can really be a serious authoritarian."
First, most J6 defendants are still committed to the Big Lie. True remorse is hard for most people, pretty much impossible for the toxic people that become hardcore MAGA.
Second, consumer liability claims can be tricky. I'm not sure what the law says about the liability of a media organization lying to someone and someone acting on those lies. Especially if the company never explicitly told them to break the law.
