Back at the High Court for another explosive Prince Harry court case against the tabloids - this time it’s The Sun and the News of the World #PrinceHarry#RoyalFamily
Prince Harry is not here at the High Court today - but his presence looms large in the British judicial system right now. This is the latest in a series of legal battles against tabloid newspapers
Prince Harry accuses The Sun and the News of the World of multiple unlawful acts:
-illegally intercepting voicemails
-“blagging” private info like phone bills or medical records
-using private investigators to commit unlawful acts
The allegations date as far back as 1994 right up until 2016
Prince Harry claims The Sun and News of the World illegally obtained and printed “highly sensitive information” about his “late mother’s state of mind, his welfare (aged just 10) and their relationship behind the scenes”
It’s claimed that in 2016 News Group Newspapers instructed an American private investigator to get private info about Meghan “in the full knowledge that it was unlawful” #MeghanMarkle#PrinceHarry

News Group Newspapers (NGN) are trying to get the claim struck-out arguing that it has been brought too late
Prince Harry’s lawyers say there was a “secret agreement” between the Royal Family and News Group Newspapers which meant he couldn’t bring a claim for phone hacking at that time
The Royal Family allegedly agreed to delay bringing a claim until the end of the phone hacking litigation process - then NGN would “admit or settle such a claim with an apology”
Court papers claim senior NGN executives deliberately concealed wrongdoing - lying to the court, the Met Police, Leveson Inquiry, MPs and the public, destroying millions of incriminating emails and paying ‘hush money’ to former employees to avoid them revealing the truth
Court papers: His Royal Highness, Prince William, has recently settled his claim against NGN behind the scenes, having had to hold off bringing a claim for years for the same reasons
Prince Harry says deal was to avoid member of the Royal Family having to sit in the witness box and “recount specific details of private and highly sensitive voicemails”
Prince Harry says “The institution was incredibly nervous about this and wanted to avoid at all costs the sort of reputational damage that it had suffered in 1993…”
“…when The Sun and another tabloid had unlawfully obtained and published details of an intimate telephone conversation that took place between my father and step-mother in 1989, while he was still married to my mother.”
Prince Harry “feels disgusted, outraged, and infuriated” by the unlawful acts “and by the journalists involved”
“These acts were a complete abuse of power, with no public interest justification” #PrinceHarry#Hacking
Prince Harry and “his brother were subjected to constant surveillance, and his mother's distrust in her protection officers was fuelled by such activities” #RoyalFamily#Hacking
“The discovery of being tracked, bugged, and hacked for profit left the Claimant feeling betrayed and appalled” #PrinceHarry
“The invasion of his personal conversations and relationships caused distress, as his privacy was constantly violated and his safety jeopardised.”
Prince Harry “is appalled by the tactics used by journalists to interfere with and ruin his relationships, and feels sick knowing that these actions were conducted unlawfully”
Court papers: HRH William, Prince of Wales, similarly brought a claim against NGN which it settled for a very large sum of money in 2020
Prince Harry: “It created an alternative and distorted version of me and my private life to the general public”
“That is grotesque and sadistic – and no doubt they were hoping for a total and very public breakdown.”
Prince Harry: “I was summoned to Buckingham Palace and specifically told to drop the legal actions because they have an ‘effect on all the family’.”

Here’s what we learnt on Day Two of Duke of Sussex v NGN hearing…
#PrinceHarry was watching on a video-link from LA as more shocking details about alleged hacking and blagging at The Sun and News of The World were revealed in court documents.
It’s alleged in the mid-90s The Sun was even intercepting the phone calls and messages of Charles, now King Charles, and Camilla, now Queen Consort.
Prince Harry claims his own private information about his “education, his health and welfare” - would’ve been accessed as a result #hacking#RoyalFamily
