Former NYPD cop Jeremy Jacinto is suing NYPD because he claims that his use of Dr. Bronner's All-One Hemp Almond Pure-Castile Bar Soap made him test positive for THC on a drug test & got him fired.
"Former Officer Jeremy Jacinto sued the NYPD Wednesday over his termination after a drug test that found carboxy THC — a metabolite of cannabis — in his system, a complaint filed in Manhattan court states."
"Jacinto argues he wasn't toking up marijuana. Instead, he maintains that his soap was to blame."
""Prior to this test, the petitioner had been using 'Dr. Bronner's All-One Hemp Almond Pure-Castile Bar Soap,'" the suit states.
"This product contains Organic Hemp Seed Oil.""
"Both hemp and marijuana come from the cannabis plant, although hemp typically does not contain enough THC to cause impairment and is broadly legal and used in many products."
"Recreational marijuana is now legal in New York, but NYPD officers are "strictly prohibited from drug use, including marijuana," according to the city."
"Jacinto, who was hired by the NYPD in 2020, was in the midst of a two-year probationary period when he was ordered to submit to an "end of probation" physical and drug screening in September, the lawsuit states."
"The NYPD didn't ask Jacinto what over-the-counter health products he used, according to the lawsuit."
""Nowhere in the Patrol Guide for the Police Department of the City of New York does it prohibit members from using hemp seed oil soaps or products," the complaint states. "Additionally, no questions are asked prior to the test concerning the use or exposure to hemp seed oil.""
"A drug test on three of Jacinto's hairs came back positive for carboxy THC, which prompted police officials to suspend him, then place him on modified duty and ultimately terminate him on Dec. 29, the lawsuit states."
"The suit argues Jacinto should be reinstated because he was "terminated as the result of using a legal over-the-counter healthcare product" that has NYPD approval."
"Jacinto's attorney John Tynan didn't respond to Patch's request for comment as of publication. City officials told Patch they'll review the complaint."
"At least a few Dr. Bronner's customers have had questions about whether the hemp soap products can lead to failed drug tests, as this Amazon question page shows."
"Patch reached out to Dr. Bronner's for comment. The company previously told concerned customers that there's no risk of failing a drug test after using its products."
""Don't worry Hemp contains no THC and makes up about 2% of the soap, crucial to smooth after feel," Dr. Bronner's tweeted in 2017. "U won't fail drug test either.""

NYPD cops chased a man in an allegedly stolen car in the Bronx on Tuesday. The man crashed into a car, kept driving, & then crashed into a tractor. Then, when NYPD closed streets to take the man to the hospital, cops in an NYPD car hit a man on a scooter. nypost.com/2023/04/26/man…
"The chaotic pursuit began around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday when Yonkers police notified the NYPD that a 33-year-old man who had stolen a 2022 Volkswagen SUV had been tracked to The Bronx, authorities said."
"Officers spotted the vehicle at Bergen and Brook avenues in Melrose and tried to stop it, but the motorist took off and police lost sight of him, cops said."
A judge looked at the current state of the racist death camp Rikers Island & just meekly asked Department of Correction leader/former NYPD cop Louis Molina to please reform it a little faster.
"For the first time in six months, the Department of Correction and its commissioner, Louis Molina, were back in court on Thursday, defending the leadership of Rikers Island.
It’s part of a yearslong court case that’s supposed to help reform the troubled jail complex."
"Advocates, activists and attorneys for those representing detainees on Rikers have all called for more. They want the independent leadership, potentially allowing the federal government to step in and take over."
"Nothing could demonstrate the limitations of such campaigns better than the annual Autism Awareness/Acceptance Day held by the New York Police Department (NYPD) and its accompanying autism awareness squad car."
"The squad car, which is covered with rainbow infinity signs and an assortment of words like “respect” and “celebrate” all over the hood, was brought out in Manhattan last weekend when the 34th Precinct co-hosted an NYPD Autism Awareness Day event."
NYPD found a weapon in about 1 out of 6 stop & frisks last year & found a firearm in only about 1 out of 13 stop & frisks. The majority of stops resulted in no arrest or summons. Stop & frisks increased about 70% during Eric Adams' 1st year as mayor. gothamist.com/news/nypd-data…
"In 2021 there were fewer than 9,000 stops; in 2022, more than 15,000.
That’s still far below the number of pedestrian stops conducted during former Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration, when, in 2011, pedestrian stops peaked at more than 685,000."
"The numbers come from the NYPD’s annual publication of its stop, question and frisk database, which provides detailed information on each recorded pedestrian stop conducted by police in a given year — from the location of the stop to the number of minutes it lasted."
