A state official came at me in my DMs over the weekend b/c I RT’ed a post about an issue I’ve advocated around for 7 yrs & it’s made me pause on every post, QT, RT, or like since. Will they see this post? This RT? Will I get a letter from an attorney? Another angry DM? 1/

They know health information about my son that i don’t want made public. If I RT this post about them, will they tell the public my son’s most personal information? Will they say a word & my husband loses his job, our health insurance, our home? 2/

B/c of their party’s use of entertainers who bring Proud Boys to rallies, I’m afraid to leave my dog in the yard. Those entertainers have HQ just a few miles from my home. Will Proud Boys show up in my yard? 3/

This official knows the work I’m doing as I grieve my friend & mentor’s death at #CovenantSchool, the reforms I’ve asked for with Covenant School & church families, alumni & parents from the school where Katherine & I taught.
How closely am I being watched by my government? /f

ps—it’s especially unsettling to see RTs of my thread here that aren’t discoverable to me. I’m reminded that anyone with a private account I don’t follow can share it. But I’m turning off replies—something I’ve never done here—because these are the days.

pps—Normally I would go straight to the press if I was bullied into changing my protected speech in a public space by any government official. But because I am advocating for TN lawmakers to pass gun reform in the wake of #CovenantSchool, I don’t want to hurt those efforts.

ps3–My Daddy used to tell me keep my head down & don’t make the wrong people mad. When all you’ve got is your voice, people in power can crush you like a bug like it’s nothing, & nobody’s going to rescue you.

God rest your soul, I love you Daddy, but they ain’t taking my voice.
