A subway rider choked a man to death on the train yesterday.
According to one witness, he was restrained by a second person as the first choked him from behind because he was “being too rowdy.”
The man who died is believed to be unhoused. The man who choked him was white.
Details are scarce and the NYPD’s version of events is questionable, but across what is known, at no time did the man who was killed physically harm anyone.
The man who choked him to death was briefly in custody while questioned, then released.
The witness also notes that multiple riders praised the man who choked the guy to death, including a woman “who seemed entertained by the whole thing and looked down on him for being homeless and mentally unwell.”
I haven’t come across anything in any outlets that reported (what the cops said) on this that the man was armed. NYPost did end their victim-blaming article from “law enforcement sources” about alleged past charges (incl “fare beating”).
NYPost claims the choker was in the Marines, but that appears to be a mishear of a different person in the footage (the choker isn’t speaking when that person is).
I’m not posting the video because it’s extremely graphic.
Description:
50-second video compilation. 1/2 is the trio working to choke this man. 1/2 is the third guy lifting the dead man’s lifeless leg to move him out of the way. Someone is heard saying he’s “military. Desert Storm, Marines” & “once they defecate, you gotta let them go.”
"He said he had no food, he had no drink, that he was tired & doesn't care if he goes to jail. He started screaming all these things, took off his jacket, a black jacket that he had, & threw it on the ground"
That's when the straphanger came up behind…& took him to the ground”
NYPost appears to have edited their May 1st article, altering a line that the choker “was taken into custody for questioning & released” to instead state he was “taken into custody.”
I confirmed with NYPD 30min ago he is not in custody & “there are no charges related to this.”
UPDATE: Manhattan DA’s office has confirmed they’ve opened an investigation into the murder of #JordanNeely. They declined to elaborate on details or what, if any, charges they would pursue against his killers.
Add’l note: For anyone claiming it was self-defense: The man who choked Neely to death grabbed him from behind. Neely never saw him.

This is Jordan Neely. He was a Michael Jackson impersonator with a loving fan base, who documented his performances over the course of years.
If you rode the subways in the last ten years and stumbled into a spry, joyful MJ, it was likely Neely.
🔗:
~A year & a half ago, his fans noticed his absence.
Jan 2022, a fan uploaded a video of him & asked “Where is he currently??”
Feb 2022 (above) captioned: “He’s currently missing in New York… I believe he will rise again and come back to us… Jordan Neely I love you so much.”
Over the weekend, it’s believed Neely was documented on the subway repeating a series of words over & over, almost incoherent: “Thirsty. I need to survive. Train. Shelter.”
He was asking subway riders for help. A woman filmed seated behind him, who appears to smirk judgmentally.
New Yorkers cheered on a public execution because they’ve been so saturated with propaganda making them believe unhoused people are a threat.
Cops let his killer go, then fed his priors to the NYP to make it seem like he deserved to die.
I have 0% faith the Manhattan DA, the Mayor, or any electeds will condemn this.
I have 0 trust any media outlet with a modicum of institutional power will sack up & tell this story straight and put the truth of this lynching on 1A.
They will ignore, minimize, & demonize.
I am so goddamn heartsick at the overlapping failures and *policy choices* that led to the murder of a man who was tired of being hungry — that led to people *praising* the killing.
In response to me boosting notice that Jim Stewartson, a deranged conspiracy theorist, is cheering on claims seeded in the Daily Beast, I rec’d an email from an account that appears to be Steve Jarvis defending his own article by…pushing a conspiracy.
The most basic summary for those fully out of the loop is that Stewartson fashions himself an “anti disinfo activist” and uses that title to generate full-blown conspiracies used to target actual disinfo researchers, activists, and press.
Accusations are often confessions.
That Jarvis, or someone speaking as him, would immediately run to email me because I responded to a thread, suggests he or people associated to him are cyberstalking @thingsstuffsays and trying to preemptively tamp out any momentum of critique by making outlandish claims.
Happening now at 53rd St. @nypl: About 11 people who are members of a far right conspiracist group, and who espouse conspiracies and hate-fueled disinfo, have arrived.
They were escorted to an area across the street by one of the ‘defenders’ who showed up to protect the library.
Pamela Hall, a photographer who rolls with the conspiracist crew, attempted to enter the library claiming she needed to use the bathroom. Library security prevented her after it was pointed out that she’s not a patron.
Performance artist @CHBAF has arrived and is trolling the conspiracist crew, which largely can’t help but fall for the bait.
So it’s mostly Barney and David Nieves screaming at each other.
