Yesterday, the Somerville legislative delegation met with Bill Ferrari, Acting Program Manager for the GLX project, to discuss the status of the Community Path Extension and other "punch list" items on the Green Line Extension Project. The MBTA recently announced a mid-June grand… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
At Washington Street in East Somerville, there's a light pole that couldn't be installed because the design of the project had it encroaching on the width of the path, so the contractor is now working through this engineering issue and looking to install the light. Then, in the… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Here's a pic of that access point I referenced in the previous tweet where the design-build contractor failed to meet ADA requirements.
I'll defer to my colleagues to talk in more detail about sections of the path that are in parts of Somerville that are not in my district — but generally speaking there are incomplete guardrails, drainage installation issues, missing bollards, ADA compliance issues, etc. We were… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Finally, at Lechmere, the Bus Loop was left incomplete at the time revenue service started last year. On the left, the starter's booth and sidewalks have now been completed and made passable, as has the sidewalk in the photo on the right.
Also at Lechmere, these bus shelters were recently opened up; sidewalks that had been opened in an interim-condition have been completed, and a plaza by the station has been widened. However, I did point out to the GLX team that they've yet to complete the landscaping under the… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

The Baker Administration put an Abu Ghraib commander in charge of a prison, an NRA guy in charge of Fish and Game, a guy with no credentials in charge of the Soldiers’ Home; they left gas inspector positions vacant before the gas explosions and 2,000 positions vacant at the MBTA.
Superintendent of state’s maximum security prison testifies that he thought Abu Ghraib was “well run” amp.wbur.org/news/2020/02/1…
I am once again calling on @MassGovernor to Rollback the Reopening and implement new restrictions and shutdowns.
At the same time, it’s not enough to just call for shutdowns. Shutdowns must be paired with financial relief for all who need it.
I’m sorry to say it feels like Gov. Baker and legislative leaders have given up on our most vulnerable residents. Evictions are piling up. The unemployment system is essentially broken. Many workers do not even have access to paid sick time...
Undocumented immigrants cannot legally operate a vehicle (despite paying taxes). Massive cuts are planned at the MBTA. Family homelessness has skyrocketed. People who are incarcerated are effectively being sentenced to death as Covid spreads through state prisons...
Another sign that @MassGovernor’s analysis of what’s driving the #COVID surge is distorted by the fact that he’s a privileged white businessman. He says it’s all about personal responsibility and social gatherings. Public health experts say that’s not it. bostonglobe.com/2020/10/29/met…
“Amid a surge of coronavirus cases in Massachusetts, new state data indicate that dozens of clusters in the past month have been identified in child care settings, nursing homes, senior living centers, restaurants and food courts, and from organized athletic activities.”
“Earlier this week, Governor Charlie Baker said workplaces infections are not driving the state’s surge in cases, but the new data suggests that’s an open question.”
Forever outraged that @MassGovernor allowed the nation's strongest eviction and foreclosure moratorium to expire during a #Covid surge and his only plan is to point to a bunch of BROKEN programs (such as RAFT) and programs that aren't even operational yet. metrohousingboston.org/boston-globe_d…
"Tenants and landlords alike ― as well as the advocates and counselors who work with them ― describe RAFT as strained to the point of bursting, with applications backed up for months, and many languishing due to documentation problems, language barriers, and miscommunication."
Also it's important to note that even if a tenant is perfectly qualified for RAFT, a landlord may decide to not cooperate or participate in the program and just move forward with an eviction anyways. That's why we also need a "Right To Cure" that protects a tenant from eviction.
Goodbye, nation’s strongest Eviction and Foreclosure Moratorium Law...
We fought to like hell win you, we fought like hell to defend you, and we fought like hell extend you.
We will keep fighting for our most vulnerable residents and for a future of Guaranteed Housing For All.
Right now, the most important thing for renters at risk of eviction to understand is that a "Notice To Quit" is NOT an eviction. wgbh.org/news/local-new…
And remember: a landlord cannot evict you, only a Judge can. If you receive a Notice To Quit, any kind of summons or complaint, or even a demanding phone call — please reach out to local, regional, and grassroots resources for help — and don't hesitate to contact me or my office.
The official announcement of Gov. Baker’s so-called “Eviction Diversion Initiative” says there will be direct financial support for "up to 18,000 households." Meanwhile, a recent analysis by @MAPCMetroBoston says an estimated "60,000 renter households fear imminent eviction."
This week the @BostonGlobe reported the Chief Justice of the Trial Court thinks there could be as many as 200,000 evictions. Last week @MassBudget cited a National Low Income Housing Coalition estimate that says up to 300,000 households in Massachusetts are at risk of eviction.
