Maybe journalists would weigh in? Is there some overarching, ethical principle to justify actively concealing a public figure's identity - other than rank subservience to the police?
Because I am finding it hard to believe these journalists are doing anything here but helping a murderer cover his tracks and giving him time to scrub potentially-damning character evidence from his socisl media, and I can't imagine that is ethical. I dunno.
The article is boilerplate, victim-blaming, "no angel" bullshit otherwise. I won't subject anyone else to its vile composition. But it does make pretty clear they know his name. And if they don't, they should probably explain how they don't.
People may see what you all are doing as a lot of things. Some might see it as aiding & abetting, since it seems possible this is a racist murderer whose motive may very well have been pure antiBlackness. I don't know the law or care for that bullshit myself.

Just such pure #copaganda. Writing what they are told by power and omitting exactly what power tells them to omit. Utterly shameless.
These people will want to remain credible journalists, but I just cannot imagine that happening.
I'm nobody. I cannot undermine their credibility. What I can do is try to direct people who have more influence to recognize that this is some egregious shit and that readers may not soon forget it. I dunno. I wouldn't trust journalists this subservient to authorities, myself.
I doubt journalism in the US cares, myself. You can see them all with their heads down now. Somewhere, most know they are little more than propagandists already.

So many people know all three men's names. The Governor. The Mayor. People on all their staffs. So many cops know. Civilians in their precincts. Journalists.
