I’ve been meditating on the st Augustine gospel book used in the #Coronation , the UKs oldest Humanmade object not found with archeology
It was carried by around 40 church planting monks from Rome. Space was limited but they brought it because it was the essential item for their work.
There were already Christians in Britain when then arrived (after trying to quit once). Most of these Christians weren’t interested in seeing the recently arrived Anglo Saxons follow Jesus.
They stayed and prayed and risked their lives. They had been invited by the Christian wife of a non Christian king. And so it goes today.
The Anglo-Saxon world was a violent one, obsessed with power. So it is with our day. We are obsessed with guns in violence, and to plan to church today is to challenge the validity of this assertion.
The only way to do this is with the gospels. The story of a crucified man who rose from the dead. That is the story they carried in this book on their backs. Nothing really ever changes.
