Google doesn't let you add or change the social media links on your Google Business Profile, but there are some sneaky ways to make it happen.

Here's how to do it 🧵

#localseo #seo Image
1. Add your socials to your website 🌐

The number one place that Google looks to make these connections is your website, so place the links in either the header or the footer.

🔥Tip: If you're linking with icons, add descriptive text to the alt attribute of the image ⬇️ Image
2. Add same-as schema markup to your GBP landing page.

Use a schema markup generator to create local business schema, and add a same-as link for each of your social media profiles.

I love @maxxeight's schema generator:
Once you have the code with your same-as links, give it to your web developer and ask them to add it to the head section of your GBP landing page.

Or you could do it yourself. Just look up some guides on how to add schema to your content management system. Image
3. Cross-link your social media profiles 🔗

Many social sites will let you link to other social sites, which is a great way to create those additional connections.

Here's me adding my TikTok to Facebook: Image
4. Add social media links to your citations.

In addition to the social profiles, many of your citations will let you add links to your social media channels.

A few examples:
🔸 Manta
🔸 Chamber of Commerce
🔸 Merchant Circle
🔸 Cylex
5. Keep your information consistent.

It's important to keep the following info consistent across your GBP, website, and all your social profiles:

🔸 business name
🔸 address (minor differences like "st." vs. "street" are fine)
🔸 phone number
🔸 website URL
6. Wait ✋

It can take Google anywhere from a few days up to a few weeks to identify these changes and update your Profile. There's no way to force it.

Do you have any other tips to help Google connect your GBP to your social profiles?

Here's an incredibly powerful local SEO strategy that can get you local rankings around your entire city for your most valuable keyword 💥

It's a major competitive advantage because hardly anyone is doing this.

I'll break it down for you 🧵

#localseo #seo Image
I found a business that was ranking very well for "Invisalign" in a wide radius (see map in previous tweet), even though their Google Business Profile was hot garbage.

🔸 No reviews
🔸 Wrong primary category
🔸 No additional categories
🔸 No services
🔸 No keywords in biz name
So what's the deal? How are they ranking so well?

The deal, folks, is their website.

Almost every page, title, header, and paragraph had to do with their primary target keyword: INVISALIGN Image

Many people think that citations are not important for local SEO anymore. They're wrong.

Here's how citations can increase your online visibility and bring you more business 🧵

#localseo #seo Image
It's hard to measure the value of citations because:

🔸Citations take anywhere from 1 week to 1 year to get reviewed & go live
🔸Google can take 6-12 months to identify & index citations
🔸Other SEO work is done during this time, so it's hard to tell which gains come from where.
This is where some interesting research from @getuberall comes in.

They studied 6000 listings:

🔸3000 of them were only listed on the base directories (Google, Apple Maps, Facebook and Bing)
🔸the other 3000 were listed on an extended network of directories (up to 40 sites)

"Quantity of Reviews on Industry-Specific Sites" is a powerful but often overlooked factor from the 2023 Local Search Ranking Factors.

Here's why it deserves your attention and how to action it 🧵

#localseo #seo Image
Industry-specific sites often rank well for your primary keywords, so being prominent on them and having good reviews on them can drive direct leads.

@w2scott famously called this "Barnacle SEO".
When your business is listed on page 1 of these sites' results, you now have a mention and a link from another site that's ranking on page 1 of Google for your primary keywords.

People stuff keywords in all the wrong places 🤦

Here are 6 places where adding keywords can help your local rankings...

... and 5 places where it will not 🧵

h/t @keyserholiday for this glorious example

#localseo #seo Image
✅ Keywords in the following sections DO impact rankings:

1. GBP Business Name ™️

Though it's against the rules to use anything other than your official business name, Google rarely suspends businesses that do 🙄

This is the most powerful GBP section you can add keywords to. Image
To be safe from suspension, change your business name officially in the following places as well:

🔸 Government sources (register a "Doing Business As" name)
🔸 In your logo
🔸 On your website
🔸 In your signage
🔸 In all your citations (@whitespark can help you with this)

I tested adding predefined services to my Google Business Profile, and WOW!

You will not believe these ranking results!

This is a 1 minute SEO tweak.

Here's what I did and what you can do too... 🧵

#localseo #seo
🧪 I made sure this SEO test was CLEAN.

🔸 Website not updated in past 6 years, had a 1-sentence homepage, and had no other pages
🔸 No new reviews in 6 years
🔸 No new links
🔸 No updates to GBP

Thus, the ONLY variable in my test were the predefined services.
First, I established the business's baseline rankings by creating a new campaign in the @whitespark Local Rank Tracker to specifically track the keywords from the predefined services.

As you can see, with 5 days of tracking, the business had hardly any rankings for these terms.

The Q&A section of your Google Business Profile is more powerful than you realize.

Here's how to turn your Q&A section into a high-value, conversion-driving powerhouse. 🧵

#localseo #seo
Sadly, the Q&A section gets neglected by most businesses, but it’s a huge opportunity to drive leads and conversions.

You don't want it to look like the top example. You want it to look like the bottom.
1. Don't just wait for your customers to ask questions! The best way to get the most valuable questions on your profile is to seed the Q&A section yourself.

Before, you had to log in and ask/answer on the Profile itself, like this:
