People will always try to seek safety in the UK.
We are one of the richest, safest countries on Earth & we colonised a third of it, leaving ties of language & community behind.

The Bill essentially says the tiny trickle of migrants seeking to rebuild a life by reaching the UK should just go somewhere else
But the international refugee protection system is based on solidarity. If we say “not here” why on Earth would the French not say the same?

None of this will make refugees disappear. We know that, it’s obvious.
The vast majority of those who flee stay in neighbouring countries. But some push on, seeking to reach family, or community, or a place they know they’ll have the opportunities we take for granted #r4today

This Bill just makes them that much more vulnerable, it leaves them without protection as refugees, without the defence of the state against traffickers.

It has nothing real to say on smugglers, traffickers or cross-border networks of exploitation: It only punished their victims
It does nothing to help or give migrants alternatives #r4today

And that, ultimately, is why it won’t work-
Why it needs the govt to build prison boats, hotels & army barracks full of rightless, powerless humans in our communities.
Because it builds up & builds up the problem, trapping more & more people, causing a deliberate crisis #r4today
