#GaryOldman was offered the role of #EdwardScissorhands — but just couldn’t understand the story & therefore declined. It took him to actually see the movie— a particular scene— that finally made him realize what #TimBurton imagined all along.

FOX offered the role to many other known artists/actors at the time— Including #MichaelJackson, #TomHanks & #TomCruise. But FOX really focused on #TomCruise. However, Cruise, apparently asked questions & made suggestions that even #TimBurton categorized as « weird ».

#JohnnyDepp never thought that he would get the role & didn’t even want to try because apparently everyone in Hollywood was interested. He finally accepted—reluctantly— to meet with #TimBurton. They instantly clicked & agreed on the character’s true essence.

Though #TimBurton was unfamiliar with Johnny Depp's then-popular performance in 21 Jump Street —he had always been Burton's first choice. He felt that only Depp truly understood and embodied the character of #EdwardScissorhands

To prepare for his role, #JohnnyDepp watched #CharlieChaplin films to learn how to silently express emotion. For Edward’s innocence, Depp drew inspiration from his dog. Having created Edward — it took the department about 2 hours to get Depp ready for filming.

#JohnnyDepp felt the character was too innocent to verbalize everything— He ended up cutting a lot of dialogue, which left #EdwardScissorhands with only 169 words in the entire movie.

According to #DannyElfman — who was responsible for the score & had worked with #TimBurton before— when he heard his idea for Edward, he instantly heard the tunes. Something that usually happens when they collaborate.

Based on #JohnnyDepp working with #TimBurton « feels like going home ».
