Going against the template moves on most part - High Risk, and a reward which isn’t equivalent.
That’s my issue, the lack of substantial reward and huge downside.
(This is the only time I have advocated something template to this extent, all season)
💎 Everything Newcastle
Assets under consideration:
Pope
Botman (I still think Burn is a better asset than Botman)
Schar
Trippier
Joelinton
Willock
Wilson
Isak
I’ll start by dismissing Pope.
If you have him, then don’t sell him but I certainly wouldn’t buy him.
Expensive…
and Kepa/De Gea are fine for the run in (likely better assets as well).
Now some analysis on Newcastle and their fixtures before a judgement on the remaining assets.
The more I look at it, the less I like this DGW.
I can’t see Leeds being an easy fixture.
Allardyce spoke…
himself about how important the first 10 minutes against Manchester City are in his assessment of what they players had picked up within him.
I was thoroughly impressed, I haven’t seen a Leeds defensive structure so robust and not having pockets of space scattered between the…
lines since they came to the league.
I understand City created a *decent* amount of chances but that was somewhat inevitable.
Given it’s away, and the importance of the game (relegation fight), Newcastle are in for a tough afternoon.
I’ll come back to their structure and why…
it doesn’t help the risk taking case.
Firstly, we should look at Joelinton and Willock.
My preference is Willock.
With Longstaff being out Newcastle are a worse team, difficult to debate against that.
He stops transition very well, allows Newcastle to sustain pressure and…
keep territory on the pitch, plus does the “dirty work” better than anyone.
His absence not only has that negative effect on the whole team, but moves Joelinton to RCM.
A position he seems less comfortable and threatening in.
Willock playing in the LCM role and just…
generally looks so threatening and I’ve been really impressed by his performances.
If it wasn’t for Bellingham he’d have a somewhat certain shout at a place in the England squad (not XI).
My issue with picking either is given Leeds won’t offer you much space between the lines…
at least it seems this way from Allardyce’s first game and his general footballing approach, it’s very difficult to see these two getting into threatening positions on even a somewhat consistent basis.
Their chance creation becomes more important that goal scoring threat.
I’d start both Trippier and Schar, I don’t think they keep a clean sheet in either game but playing the law of averages maybe they sneak one in with a little bit of luck.
The attacking threat is what I like
I’d look at Isak vs Wilson as a 3 game spread (Leicester GW37 included)
Leeds - Isak starts & Wilson benched
Brighton - Both start
Leicester - Both start
Enough recovery time between each game for Isak to start all three, but I think he gets hooked in at least one game (two depending on game state).
When both are on the pitch given he’s central…
and penalties, I prefer Willson.
But I’m currently married to xMins and still think it’s importance is so understated - hence I prefer Isak.
The Brighton game will be tough.
I’ve left analysis out currently because I’m unsure of the system De Zerbi plays, I’ll write up some…
analysis if we get an inclination of how he approaches the game.
Nonetheless, won’t be easy.
With March out their right side won’t have the ability to be as secure off the ball - good for Isak.
They will learn from the mistakes, Wilson won’t get the freedom DCL did (2 CB’s to… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
💎 Everything Brighton
March playing any part of DGW36 or DGW37 would be a surprise to say the least.
He’s currently taking up a valuable spot in the midfield, it seems wise to sell him.
Mac Allister/Mitoma the obvious transfer in.
The Brighton section will be quite short…
I don’t see much value in punting on differential assets (Ferguson & Enciso) due to xMins and their ceilings aren’t particularly high.
I don’t expect much rotation, a tough schedule yes, but with so much on the line and given it’s the home straight - they won’t rest players.
That’s in reference to the key assets (Mitoma, Mac A, Dunk & Estupinan).
The fixtures aren’t great (Southampton aside, respectfully) but you are getting four fixtures “for” the price of two.
The upside will always be there as such, and it’s too difficult to justify turning that… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
💎 Captaincy
What I first thought was relatively simple, is proving harder.
I’m quite convinced I’ve never captained a SGW player in a DGW, but I’m not as opposed to it as I was earlier in the week.
The analysis for all DGW assets is above.
Isak my preferred choice due to…
xMins and *decent* fixtures.
But, as you can tell by the tome I’m not overly excited about it.
Wilson is more of a punt, but DOES have the upside so I don’t mind that at all.
Mitoma’s end product has been so poor recently, if you fancy he changes that he’s a decent option but… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Trent has looked absolutely phenomenal since he moved into his new role initially against Arsenal.
He passes every test, Leicester are in woeful form and with the amount of chances they concede due to a poor structure and not the right personnel within it, there’s attacking… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
💎 Future Transfers
Remember to judge your decisions on the process in which you made them, rather than the outcome.
As long as the rationale in which you made them is sound, the outcome doesn’t have any bearing on the quality of decision.
Zincheko’s inverted nature the RW should certainly have a few opportunities to exploit this.
Aubameyang shouldn’t actually be too mobile in this game, force at least one of the CB’s to stay central and create isolated instances for the wingers.
However, Chelsea aren’t well versed in this system.
The 4-3-3 is the the hardest formation to play well and when you get it wrong, the are consequences catastrophic.
Trossard’s obvious advantage in the duel against Azpilicueta will force the RCB to play sidedly wider than…
💎 Take a broader perspective (Very important)
💎 Manchester City assets
💎 Liverpool assets
💎 Other players of concern - Trippier etc.
💎 Captaincy
💎 FH Draft
💎 GK’s & How many hits?
& the mid-block with his passing is significantly worse than Saliba’s.
It has caused Odegaard to make slight adjustments to his game, including dropping deeper at times to receive and start/increase the tempo of the initial phases of play.
Arsenal have still been good going…
forward, but you want your most creative player further up the pitch.
It appears Arteta doesn’t have numerous solutions available, at least not obvious one’s.
Moving White, Partey & Xhaka out of position and starting Jorginho are potentials but it’s not exactly the most ideal…
