With all due respect, one major issue with this thread is that “asylum” is a very specific definition, and the majority of people “seeking asylum” at the US-Mexico border don’t fall under its jurisdiction so have to be processed as economic migrants.
The solution to high #s of illegitimate asylum claims would be to improve our processing speed so that asylum claims can be handled swiftly and without releasing people into the country, but immigration advocate groups have blocked that option through lawsuits and politically.
By forcing through economic migrants as asylum seekers, immigration advocates aren’t actually increasing the quotas of asylum seekers, since that has to be done through Congress and as a result, now basically nobody’s getting asylum, which is simply unjust.
That said, United States’ immigration platform can’t be based around asylum seekers, who are only a fraction of total immigrants, and that’s completely aside from the fact “be kind to our fellow citizens of the world” is not how public policy is determined.
The issue really boils down to the fact that “Let everybody in” and “keep everybody out” are both inactionable, but are what both parties’ extremists want. The median voter is also arguably closer to the latter than the former, so we’re at an impasse wherein nothing can get done.

Very bored because it’s pouring rain so we’ll do this again ngl.link/dhaaruni2
I really struggle with inversions despite having the necessary strength because my body type is just really not conducive to going upside down lol Image
Uh this is like a Sophie’s Choice of the most obnoxious men ever. Let’s go with: Peterson, Rogan, Shapiro, Walsh, and Tate (but open to other suggestions) Image

This is Fahrenheit 451 levels of totalitarian bullshit
I started reading Nora Roberts and Lisa Kleypas and @Lorraine_Heath at 14 when I'd exhausted the Young Adult section in my public library, and I honestly credit my adult attitude towards sex and relationships a la Loretta Lynn and not Tammy Wynette to them.
I learned that my body was my own from a young age in the "I am worthy of simultaneously being loved, sexually desired, and respected" way, which obviously ties directly into the "there is no women's liberation without the right to abortion and birth control" way.

Imagine establishing yourself an authority on electoral politics and then declaring with your chest out that Trump lost in 2020 because his administration was cruel to asylum seekers lol
Family separation in particular was uniquely evil on a moral level, but it's okay to maintain that position from a human rights perspective without pretending that Trump's racist rhetoric on immigration wasn't one of the primary reasons he pulled off a surprise win in 2016.
I feel like Americans just don't want to think about immigration. They don't approve of kids in cages but they also don't like "chaos at the border" and gun to head, they'd rather the migrants just be stopped before they show up at the US border like Turkey does for the EU.

Catching up on work and hanging out in our backyard with Jude so go for it.
No real personal insight but “The highest levels of support for the Democratic Party come from Indians (56%) and Japanese (57%); Vietnamese (23%) and Chinese (42%) Americans register the lowest levels of support for the Democratic Party.” theconversation.com/not-all-asian-… Image
Idk but I never have and never will do anything sexual with a woman because I don’t find women sexually attractive. Image

When I was a preteen, I used to wear sweatshirts in the Southern California summer because other girls would snap my bra strap and tell me I had the body of a porn star. To this day, I sleep on my stomach because I read when I was 10 that doing so would flatten me out.
Being an early developer directly led to my eating disorder because I had the bright idea that if I starved myself enough, I’d lose weight in my chest and have normal proportions. Spoiler alert: This didn’t work and I weighed 83 pounds as a 20-year-old while still having C-cups.
I’m very healthy now, and of course there are many social benefits to having the body I do, but that doesn’t change the culture of simultaneous objectification and dehumanization surrounding women with my (and Sydney Sweeney’s) body type, and I can’t stand it.
