The DeSanti have completely reprehensible views and I wouldn't ever vote for either of them but anybody that's pretending that the media treatment Casey DeSantis gets isn't at least partly rooted in the fact she's not ~of the manor born~ but cosplays as it is deluded. Who gives a shit if her elbow-length gloves are loose or she wears evening dresses during the day? I care that she supports her husband who signed a 6-week abortion ban and keeps Florida teachers in a state of constant fear they'll be fired for doing their jobs!

I couldn’t justify calling in sick to work this morning, but now it’s 6pm, I have a fever of 100.2 (tested negative for COVID thankfully), and I feel like a train ran over me so entertain me. ngl.link/dhaaruni2 Star Wars Image

Yes, the presidents were in chronological order like who do you think I am? A normal person? I’m afflicted with a pathologically good memory with extremely rapid recall that sometimes unnerves even me, so normal was never in the cards. sporcle.com/games/g/presid… Image Tangentially speaking, am I arrogant about my intelligence in a way that’s occasionally off-putting? Yes. But have I earned it? I think so.

My two cents on this is that I majored in Book Club (English) and the only reason I have the job I do is because I'm very good with numbers I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with majoring in the humanities, I did it after all, but if you want a foolproof way of making good money in your 20s, be good at math

Ron DeSantis being a wife guy™️ is: a) The only endearing thing about him
b) Definitely not why he should never be president Good to see that Tiger Beat of the Potomac is still Tiger Beating

Happy 487th death anniversary of my first feminist awakening, Anne Boleyn. When I was 8, I came across her in a biography of Elizabeth I, found out her husband had her killed for not having a son, decided that was bullshit, and cried for a bit before declaring I was a feminist. With all due respect, one major issue with this thread is that “asylum” is a very specific definition, and the majority of people “seeking asylum” at the US-Mexico border don’t fall under its jurisdiction so have to be processed as economic migrants. The solution to high #s of illegitimate asylum claims would be to improve our processing speed so that asylum claims can be handled swiftly and without releasing people into the country, but immigration advocate groups have blocked that option through lawsuits and politically.

This is Fahrenheit 451 levels of totalitarian bullshit I started reading Nora Roberts and Lisa Kleypas and @Lorraine_Heath at 14 when I'd exhausted the Young Adult section in my public library, and I honestly credit my adult attitude towards sex and relationships a la Loretta Lynn and not Tammy Wynette to them.

Imagine establishing yourself an authority on electoral politics and then declaring with your chest out that Trump lost in 2020 because his administration was cruel to asylum seekers lol Family separation in particular was uniquely evil on a moral level, but it's okay to maintain that position from a human rights perspective without pretending that Trump's racist rhetoric on immigration wasn't one of the primary reasons he pulled off a surprise win in 2016.

Catching up on work and hanging out in our backyard with Jude so go for it. No real personal insight but “The highest levels of support for the Democratic Party come from Indians (56%) and Japanese (57%); Vietnamese (23%) and Chinese (42%) Americans register the lowest levels of support for the Democratic Party.” theconversation.com/not-all-asian-… Image

When I was a preteen, I used to wear sweatshirts in the Southern California summer because other girls would snap my bra strap and tell me I had the body of a porn star. To this day, I sleep on my stomach because I read when I was 10 that doing so would flatten me out. Being an early developer directly led to my eating disorder because I had the bright idea that if I starved myself enough, I’d lose weight in my chest and have normal proportions. Spoiler alert: This didn’t work and I weighed 83 pounds as a 20-year-old while still having C-cups.

I'm staying in tonight and catching up on my reading, and first on the docket is Louise Perry's "The Case Against the Sexual Revolution." I'm about 50 pages in, and I don't fully agree with Perry's thesis but the last sentence of this passage is painfully accurate. I'm an atheist, and I don't believe in destiny or w/e, but I do think that it's our responsibility to counteract our worst tendencies. We all have to live with the consequences of our decisions, no matter who or what influenced us to make them.

Not the point but it's fascinating how Maureen Dowd genuinely respects Nancy Pelosi in a way she'll never respect the Clintons or the Obamas. I almost feel like it's a matter of classism: Pelosi, whom I love and respect, was the daughter of the mayor of Baltimore and political royalty from birth, even meeting John F. Kennedy as a young woman, while the Clintons and Obamas all came from much more humble backgrounds.

Lmao the replies are full of people who genuinely believe that women who say “good for her” at fictional character Amy Dunne have set feminism back like that’s not why feminism has massively regressed in the last 10 years, please shut up. Amy Dunne isn’t women’s fantasy, she’s men’s nightmare; meanwhile, Nick Dunne is men’s reality. Women generally don’t plan out elaborate revenge schemes for their husbands cheating on them with barely legal women but plenty of men cheat on their wives with barely legal women!

You can agree or disagree with her stance but it's pretty evident that Kyrsten Sinema‘s major point of contention with the Democratic Party is over her refusal to abolish the filibuster, which has become the party standard. Nobody was following Sinema into the bathroom to yell at her for the carried interest loophole in the IRA or her refusal to tax hedge funds (or w/e), they were yelling at her for not supporting abolishing the filibuster, which is a procedural and not ideological disagreement.

I've noticed a lot of people on here dooming and despairing about the future of our country and democracy so here's a little 🧵reminding us why it's imperative that we remain resilient and keep the faith so to speak. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Firstly, this is one of my favorite renditions of "The Star-Spangled Banner" by the late, great Whitney Houston at Super Bowl XXV.

Something that annoyed me is that in this article, while Gomez is talking about her Bipolar Disorder, the author brings up her own pandemic-induced panic attacks, which I personally thought was inappropriate and has grated on me since I read it a few hours ago. Young millennial/Gen-Z “all about me” journalism is rife with false equivalences that aren’t the same as empathy. The author seems fundamentally unable to empathize with Gomez without inserting herself into the narrative, and it’s both insensitive and bad journalism.

Relatedly, that story about the Iowa woman who answered the door to an Obama canvasser holding a toddler and frantically whispered, “I’m voting for Obama but we’re Republicans and if my husband found out, he’d kill us both” haunts me to this day. There are women like this all over America. They often don’t have a college-education, and definitely don’t have the money or family support to strike out alone, with or without their children.
