TX House will be formally voting on #SB14, which would ban transition-related medical treatments for trans minors, today. It's a short calendar today and SB 14 is up top. The chamber has already given the bill its preliminary approval on Friday. #txlegebit.ly/42G3ps6
There seems to be little presence of #SB14’s supporters or opponents today. Outside the Capitol, there's this billboard truck driving around downtown near the building. It’s sponsored by advocacy groups that have been vocal critics of the bill. #txlege
The Texas House has started considering #SB14. A protestor chanted briefly from the gallery. Rep. @DonnaHowardTX is now asking Rep. @TomOliverson, the key sponsor of the bill, questions
In her question, Rep. @VikkiGoodwinTX is asking how the bill would impact adolescent medicine. She brought up the recent departure of doctors at Dell Children's and the impact that it has had on adolescent healthcare, beyond those for trans youth. texastribune.org/2023/05/13/aus…
The questions are done. Dems, starting with Rep. @VentonJonesTX, are now making speeches in opposition of #SB14. Up next is Rep. @ErinForYall.
The final House vote on this bill is likely coming soon. #txlege
Rep. @GeneforTexas also speaking in opposition of #SB14, referencing his own experience of being bullied as a kid. #txlege
"I hate bullies. I hate when we pick on people who can't defend themselves. ... To me, this legislation is a type of bullying."
@GeneforTexas Rep. @GeneforTexas received some claps from the gallery after his speech — which went on to say that the trans community is not the first group have been singled out in #txlege — ended. Now Rep. @RepPennyMShaw is also speaking in opposition.
Rep. @jessicafortexas giving a particular scathing speech about #SB14. She stressed parental rights for all. "I know many of you are parents. ... I know you would do anything to make sure they are safe. ... It should be no difference for parents of trans children." #txlege
Rep. @jessicafortexas now reading the letter she received from a trans teen who said they have benefited from receiving transition-related care. But they are terrified for their future, looking at #SB14 and other bills. #txlege
TX House voted 87-56 to give #SB14 its formal approval. The Senate can now ask for a conference committee to iron out the difference — or accept the House’s changes and send the bill to Gov. Greg Abbott to sign into law. #txlege

This morning, LGBTQ Texans and their allies are planning to march to the South steps of the Capitol to protest #SB14. Supporters for the bill, wearing red shirts that say "save Texas kids" are already in the building. Some also sang & prayed before entering the gallery. #txlege
Dems, including the 9 openly LGBTQ lawmakers, are also planning to read stories of trans youth who would be affected by #SB14. And Dems have delayed debates on this twice via points of order, so we can probably expect to see more of them today. #txlegebit.ly/3VW0SYa
