Waterloo Region manages source water protection, the Regional Official Plan, Education, Hospitals, Emergency Services, Police, Housing & Mental Health supports. It manages policies that formed the ESL and ESPAs to protect biodiversity, forests, fisheries and primary recharge.
Waterloo Region is the largest region in Canada dependent on groundwater and Ontario's second largest foodbelt. Irresponsible development, aggregate extractions & sprawl can put lives at risk especially in the age of climate change. ImageImageImageImage
The Region knows where our source areas are yet Provincial growth targets put our water at risk with sprawl and gravel pits. Legacy spills, road salts and pollution threats are very real and we need to protect water flow, water quality, water volumes and flow rates to stay safe. ImageImageImage

Ford wants to undo regional structures s in many water sensitive areas. @kthomason @SKoswan this is the algae by pickering and Darlington Nuclear here.
This is the algae distribution around the existing Nuclear plants along Lake Ontario. It is aggravated by nitrates, phosphates, sewage effluent, farm fertilizers and runoff and other upstream activities. Image
In Ontario we already have spent over $65 million on issues of zebra mussels impacting our nuclear plants. They cover the cooling system if untreated. The solvents to control the mussels creates algae issues that results in expensive shut downs too. It clogs the intakes. ImageImageImageImage

Premier Ford is tinkering with our life or death critical Infrastructure at this level. This is a National Security risk. @fordnation @JustinTrudeau @cafreeland @JonathanWNV @UNDPGAIN @INTERPOL_HQ @ICCT_TheHague @antonioguterres @anticorruption @AntiCorruptIntl @ChiefsofOntario
The region manages hospitals, emergency services and policing, water treatment, landfills, climate action response and mental health supports, parks, highways, conservation of environmentally sensitive lands and source water protection and so much more.
The Waterloo Moraine is an area that is geologically complex with outwash moraines similar to Arkell Research center in Guelph. Topography is not enough to prevent well contamination. We must understand this system to protect it. Predevelopment data is not enough to protect it. ImageImageImageImage

@premierbhiggs⁩ it is not the jurisdiction of school boards to “out” LGBTQ kids. Your job is to facilitate the education of all these young people in compliance to human rights policies bound to equity and inclusion. cbc.ca/news/canada/ne…
As an Acadian and Mi’kmaw person my people have always had love for people of all genders and gender preferences because diversity of perspective it gives on life is insightful and valued. We love all. The English always put people in categories of race, class, gender etc. Why?
My people never even had words for black people until they attended schools in New Brunswick. These concepts of intolerance were imported like an invasive species of the mind. It is toxic thinking. You have laws and human rights to uphold and they are there for all not just some. ImageImage

Flooding, communications blackout as Cyclone Mocha arrives. Refugee camps are generally slightly inland, but most are built on hillsides, putting them at risk of landslides after heavy rain.

The UNHCR Camp office at Kutupalong is supported by seven international entities: the governments of the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan, Finland, Sweden and the IKEA Foundation. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kutupalon…
With flimsy shelters, built on steep hillsides, the camps are prone to flooding and landslides, particularly during monsoons. August 2018, Human Rights Watch urged Bangladesh to relocate the camps to sturdier structures, on safer ground in Cox's Bazar. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kutupalon…

Dear @premierbhiggs. Fracking in New Brunswick would be extremely unreasonable. Injecting water into areas with potential salt deposits, vertical fractures and lime deposits is crazy. The water can dissolve these minerals and create earth quakes, sink holes and other issues.
Acadia is not your land to destroy.
I know you were a member of COR. I know you worked for Irving. I know Irving works with Saudi with an oil for weapons contract system. You will not have peace doing business that way. Mr. Harper was a serial abuser of power. Do not follow his lead. thetyee.ca/Opinion/2015/0…
