TX House voted 93-45 to formally pass its version of SB 12. It will now return to the Senate, where senators can either accept the House’s changes or send it to a conference committee to hash out the differences. #txegetexastribune.org/2023/05/19/tex…
The recorded vote says Rep. @ShawnieT146, D-Houston, voted no — but her office told me that was a mistake. She also voted yes to SB 12 on Friday. At least 6 other Democrats also support the bill.
And for their Monday vote, most Democrats chose to formally express their opposition to #SB12 instead of selecting “present not voting” like on Friday. #txlege
Rep. @AlmaAllen131, D-Houston, voted yes on Monday. But her office confirmed that this was a mistake. #txlege
Rep. @TerryCanales40, D-Edinburg, voted yes on Monday. He has since confirmed to @JoshuaFechter that this was an accident. The rep voted present not voting on Friday. #txlege
And confirmed with Rep. @CortezPhilip's office that he intended to choose present not voting on #SB12 today. He voted for the bill on Friday according to the recorded vote, but his staff wasn't sure what happened then. Might have been an error then. #txlege

NEW: TX Senate has advanced proposed restrictions on lessons about gender identity and sexual orientation up to 12th grade for the 3rd time this session. It voted 19-12 to give 1st OK to #HB890, which now contains the "Don't Say Gay" provision. #txlegetexastribune.org/2023/05/22/tex…
HB 890 initially focused on the processes school districts must adopt to receive and resolve complaints. It passed unanimously out of the House in late April. Senate Republicans drastically changed the bill last week. #txlege
This vote on HB 890 followed the recent demise of other efforts to advance these proposals in TX House. SB 8's House version removed language regarding restrictions on gender and sexual orientation, before fizzling in committee. SB 1072 also died in committee.
BREAKING: TX Senate has voted 18-13 to pass #HB2127, a sweeping bill that would overturn current local ordinances & prevent cities from adopting new one that are tougher than state laws on numerous issues. #txlege
Democrats tried to propose several amendments to increase labor protections, but they all failed. #HB2127#txlege
Still waiting for the Senate record vote, but Republican Sen. @SenatorNichols office said he voted no on #HB2127#txlege
@TexasTribune The vote was largely along party time. Though, some Democrats including state Reps. @RepHaroldDutton, Tracy King, and @ShawnieT146 voted yes. They also voted yes on Friday. #txlege
Also, as @eklib reported: Department of Public Safety say police removed 3 people from the gallery for displaying a banner and disrupting a public meeting, and issued them a criminal trespass warning that prohibits them from being in the Capitol for a year. #txlege
TX House will be formally voting on #SB14, which would ban transition-related medical treatments for trans minors, today. It's a short calendar today and SB 14 is up top. The chamber has already given the bill its preliminary approval on Friday. #txlegebit.ly/42G3ps6
There seems to be little presence of #SB14’s supporters or opponents today. Outside the Capitol, there's this billboard truck driving around downtown near the building. It’s sponsored by advocacy groups that have been vocal critics of the bill. #txlege
The Texas House has started considering #SB14. A protestor chanted briefly from the gallery. Rep. @DonnaHowardTX is now asking Rep. @TomOliverson, the key sponsor of the bill, questions
Today, TX House will be attempting to consider #SB14, which would ban gender-affirming medical treatments for trans minor, for the third time. The bill is last on the 7-page House’s calendar so we won’t be getting to it for a while. #txlege@TexasTribunebit.ly/3o0e2GP
This morning, LGBTQ Texans and their allies are planning to march to the South steps of the Capitol to protest #SB14. Supporters for the bill, wearing red shirts that say "save Texas kids" are already in the building. Some also sang & prayed before entering the gallery. #txlege
Dems, including the 9 openly LGBTQ lawmakers, are also planning to read stories of trans youth who would be affected by #SB14. And Dems have delayed debates on this twice via points of order, so we can probably expect to see more of them today. #txlegebit.ly/3VW0SYa
