A long personal thread on the #nced debate 🧵

While it may seem appealing to allocate funds directly to students rather than public schools, we must consider the impact and benefits of investing in our public education infrastructure.

#ncpol
A robust public school system is the bedrock of a democratic society, providing opportunities to all students. By adequately funding schools, we ensure that students have access to good teachers, well-equipped classrooms, and learning resources that foster development.
These opportunities empower students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them for a successful future.

Moreover, a strong public school system helps create a level playing field by bridging the achievement gap and promoting social mobility.
Many students face numerous challenges beyond their control. By investing in public schools, we can provide targeted supports that these students overcome obstacles and unlock their full potential. By uplifting the system as a whole, we uplift the students within it.
Additionally, public schools serve as community centers, bringing people together and fostering civic engagement. They provide a space where students from diverse backgrounds can interact, learn from one another, and build valuable social skills.
Public schools support families by offering after-school programs, healthcare services, and resources for parents to participate in their child's education. This community engagement strengthens community and promotes a sense of belonging, essential for the well-being of students
While it's important to see the need for targeted interventions, solely focusing on individual funding risks exacerbating existing inequalities. Directly funding students may inadvertently leave behind those who are already disadvantaged, further deepening educational disparities
Instead, by investing in the public school system, we address the root causes of inequities and work towards creating a society that offers equal opportunities for all.
Supporting a strong public school system is not only an investment in the education of children, but also a commitment to social progress and equal opportunity.
By funding public schools, we ensure that all students receive a quality education, support their development, bridge achievement gaps, and foster community. It’s through strengthening our public school system that we best support our students and build a brighter future for all.
