The call data in your GBP Performance section is wrong.

Google only records calls when people tap the call button on mobile. Desktop calls aren't captured.

Solve this problem by using a call tracking number on your GBP.

Here's what you need to know 🧵

#localseo #seo Image
A call tracking number is a unique phone number that you can use on your GBP (or on any marketing campaigns).

It lets you see various metrics:
🔸 source (GBP, Ads, website, etc.)
🔸 caller's location
🔸 time of the call
🔸 duration of the call
Depending on your industry, calls may be the primary form of lead generation for your business.

As Google is trying to keep users on search result pages, tracking calls from your GBP is super valuable.

There's plenty of call-tracking software. We use @CallRail at @whitespark.
Once you get a call tracking number, add it to your GBP under "Contact Information"

🔸 Set the tracking number as your PRIMARY.
🔸 And your real business number as ADDITIONAL.

Only the primary is shown on your GBP, so now you can track ALL your calls, not just the mobile calls. Image
Wait. Won’t that be a problem for citation consistency?

Nope. Since you've put your business number as an additional number, all your listings on the web will stay connected to your Profile, and Google will have no problem associating your citations with your GBP.
🔥 Bonus Tip: Those additional phone number fields can also be used for old phone numbers that you have used in the past.

This is a nice shortcut for helping Google connect citations with the old phone number to your Profile.
I also recommend using a separate call tracking number on your site.

The phone # on your site should match your GBP, but call tracking software fixes this with "dynamic number replacement"

Google sees your real number on load, and then JS replaces it with the tracking number 🤯
There you have it, the right way to use a call tracking number on your GBP & website.

Not only is this a great way to monitor your conversion rate, but now you can accurately show the impact of your local SEO work to your clients or boss.

Everyone knows that title tags are important for SEO, but I still see so many people doing them wrong.

Here are my tips for crafting the perfect title tag for local SEO 🧵

One of them is particularly controversial 🧐

#localseo #seo
Just in case you're not sure, title tags are the blue, clickable links that appear in the search results.

They are not the same as your headings. They are defined in the HTML source code of your website.

Most website platforms allow you to edit them for SEO. Image
If you put your mouse over your browser's tab, the title tag will show up.

It breaks my heart when I see a title tag that just says "Home" because for small businesses, the home page is the most important page to optimize. Image

Google doesn't let you add or change the social media links on your Google Business Profile, but there are some sneaky ways to make it happen.

Here's how to do it 🧵

#localseo #seo Image
1. Add your socials to your website 🌐

The number one place that Google looks to make these connections is your website, so place the links in either the header or the footer.

🔥Tip: If you're linking with icons, add descriptive text to the alt attribute of the image ⬇️ Image
2. Add same-as schema markup to your GBP landing page.

Use a schema markup generator to create local business schema, and add a same-as link for each of your social media profiles.

I love @maxxeight's schema generator:

Here's an incredibly powerful local SEO strategy that can get you local rankings around your entire city for your most valuable keyword 💥

It's a major competitive advantage because hardly anyone is doing this.

I'll break it down for you 🧵

#localseo #seo Image
I found a business that was ranking very well for "Invisalign" in a wide radius (see map in previous tweet), even though their Google Business Profile was hot garbage.

🔸 No reviews
🔸 Wrong primary category
🔸 No additional categories
🔸 No services
🔸 No keywords in biz name
So what's the deal? How are they ranking so well?

The deal, folks, is their website.

Almost every page, title, header, and paragraph had to do with their primary target keyword: INVISALIGN Image

Many people think that citations are not important for local SEO anymore. They're wrong.

Here's how citations can increase your online visibility and bring you more business 🧵

#localseo #seo Image
It's hard to measure the value of citations because:

🔸Citations take anywhere from 1 week to 1 year to get reviewed & go live
🔸Google can take 6-12 months to identify & index citations
🔸Other SEO work is done during this time, so it's hard to tell which gains come from where.
This is where some interesting research from @getuberall comes in.

They studied 6000 listings:

🔸3000 of them were only listed on the base directories (Google, Apple Maps, Facebook and Bing)
🔸the other 3000 were listed on an extended network of directories (up to 40 sites)

"Quantity of Reviews on Industry-Specific Sites" is a powerful but often overlooked factor from the 2023 Local Search Ranking Factors.

Here's why it deserves your attention and how to action it 🧵

#localseo #seo Image
Industry-specific sites often rank well for your primary keywords, so being prominent on them and having good reviews on them can drive direct leads.

@w2scott famously called this "Barnacle SEO".
When your business is listed on page 1 of these sites' results, you now have a mention and a link from another site that's ranking on page 1 of Google for your primary keywords.

People stuff keywords in all the wrong places 🤦

Here are 6 places where adding keywords can help your local rankings...

... and 5 places where it will not 🧵

h/t @keyserholiday for this glorious example

#localseo #seo Image
✅ Keywords in the following sections DO impact rankings:

1. GBP Business Name ™️

Though it's against the rules to use anything other than your official business name, Google rarely suspends businesses that do 🙄

This is the most powerful GBP section you can add keywords to. Image
To be safe from suspension, change your business name officially in the following places as well:

🔸 Government sources (register a "Doing Business As" name)
🔸 In your logo
🔸 On your website
🔸 In your signage
🔸 In all your citations (@whitespark can help you with this)
