NATO was well-ahead of its time by dividing its command structure into two principal strategic commands, one operational & the other, @NATO_ACT, focused on future proofing the Alliance.

So that there is no ambiguity about the meeting, held under Chatham House rules, the following are my own reflections on actions that Canada could/should take as a founding member of @NATO:

Canada should advocate for the revival of @NATO’s Economic Committee to equip the Alliance with geo-economic tools and coordinate responses & strategies against adversaries who might resort to economic coercion. #cdnpoli

As a middle power, 🇨🇦 is strongest when it stands united with others.

@NATO’s been embarking on an Indo-Pacific pivot. With the establishment of a Liaison Office in Japan, look for further opportunities of alignment & collaboration between NATO and our own Indo-Pacific strategy.

Exchanges between @NATO and Taiwan have been long in place, though rarely publicized. The increasing visibility of these regular exchanges are important at a time when adversaries seek to challenge the intl rules-based order.

Canada should not only encourage further exchanges between Taiwan and @NATO, but also explore greater opportunities to collaborate with @TaiwanInCanada.

More than just cultural and commercial ties, we also share democratic values & respect for the rule of law.
