Today was wash day, it was taking care of my sick toddler day, it was trying to get my tween to get some exercise and ride his bike day and it was my wedding anniversary

I did not expect it to be the day I got invited to a White House Zoom call about the debt ceiling deal

Even before I got invited to this briefing I knew this was a win

Kevin McCarthy knew he didn’t get what he wanted

This debt ceiling deal is a bfd

I know it

You know it

The GOP sure knows it and is as mad as hell

The deal protects all the hard won economic and climate progress of the past 2 years

AND prevents another showdown for another 2 years

That matters

One of the most overlooked facts of this deal, even though it’s literally called a debt ceiling deal, is we avoided a catastrophic economic recession

One that was about to be completely man made by MAGA Republicans

One of the most contentious aspects of the deal, on our side, is social programs

There’s a lot of misinformation flying around

The GOP was TARGETING Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security

Those are protected

On SNAP age limits are raised but phased AND benefits are expanded

I mean this is a significant expansion of SNAP to include not just the unhoused but housing insecure, former foster youth and veterans of ALL AGES and it’s not phased over time

It’s happening when the ink dries

The part that vexed me most was that the GOP WAS LASER FOCUSED on rolling back historic climate and environmental justice policy AND weakening vital laws like the Clean Water Act

I was mad for EPA Bae shaped reasons and because our kids deserve clean water and air

All intact 🌎

We have to stay focused

This stay on any other hostage taking is until the next Congress

We HAVE TO WIN in 2024

We have to make Future Speaker Bae SPEAKER BAE HAKEEM JEFFRIES

This isn’t a hard ask

It’s literally five seats that give Kevin power

That’s it

In conclusion, many of you may not know what wash day is

It’s often a multi-hour event to wash and style a Black woman’s hair

That all these other things happened on the same day is a superhuman feat 😂
