Sitting in a packed courtroom as barristers are about to begin opening speeches dealing with #PrinceHarry case against Mirror Group Newspapers.

The publisher is accused of “widespread and habitual” phone hacking and blagging causing him “huge bouts of depression and paranoia”
Prince Harry is due at court tomorrow - the first time in more than a century that a senior Royal will enter the witness box
The Duke of Sussex flew in yesterday evening from LA after attending his daughter’s birthday.

There’s discussion in court about when #PrinceHarry will arrive. His barrister says his “travel & security arrangements make it trickier”. He’s expected here tomorrow to give evidence
The defence barrister says he needs a full day and a half to cross-examine the Duke of Sussex about 33 Mirror Group Newspaper articles allegedly the product of phone hacking and blagging
Barrister for #PrinceHarry says his claim is “very significant” relating to a 15 year period between 1996-2011 representing the “broadest range of unlawful activity”.
He says Mirror Group Newspapers used 30 different Private Investigators to unlawfully gather his private information because the “ends justified the means”
Court hears even when Prince Harry was a teenager “every facet of his private life” was published “in full technicolour glory” because stories about his private life drove sales
Mirror Group Newspapers have in the past admitted and apologised for phone hacking - but admit just one case of unlawful information gathering against Prince Harry in 2004 for an article about him at a nightclub.
But Prince Harry’s barrister says it’s “plainly implausible” that there was only once instance - arguing that he was the “one of the most written about individuals” and was hacked “multiple times” by journalists whose “modus operandi” was unlawful activity
Prince Harry’s barrister tells the court even when he was “a schoolboy”, even after the death of his mother, then his time at Sandhurst and as a young adult - “nothing was sacrosanct”.

Prince Harry arrives at the High Court to give evidence in his hacking case against Mirror Group Newspapers.

The first time in 130 years a senior Royal has appeared in a court witness box.

And promises to be box office… I’m off to get my seat in court! #PrinceHarry #Hacking
Prince Harry was quiet and sounded nervous as he stated his name “Prince Harry” and swore an oath on the bible in the witness box
I’ve never heard a barrister have to explain to the court the protocol on how to address a witness… “Your Royal Highness” in the first instance, then “Prince Harry”

Day 4 of #PrinceHarry v Mirror Group Newspapers.

We’re hearing evidence from Dan Evans, former Sunday Mirror journalist. He was previously convicted of phone hacking at News of the World.
In his witness statement he describes his ‘“Corporate Grooming” by MGN, in my twenties, into its world of unethical and illegal journalism’
Dan Evans says “Sometimes stories would come from a legitimate source... We would often "stand up" or develop the story by looking to hack the phones of the individuals involved, or their friends, so that we could verify the truth of the information given to us by the source.”

It’s Day Two of Prince Harry v Mirror Group Newspapers and Barrister David Sherborne is continuing his opening #PrinceHarry
Prince Harry’s barrister says one of the “most seriously troubling features” of this case is those at the highest level of MGN management “were well aware of what was going on”.
Court hears Piers Morgan and MGN lawyers “knew full well” that Prince Michael of Kent’s financial information was “obtained unlawfully and that the criminal law had in fact been breached”

From Coronation to Courtroom…

Prince Harry is not here at the Royal Courts of Justice today but he’s at the heart of this civil trial: a crucial flank of his crusade against British tabloids

Today’s target: MGN - publisher of Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror & Sunday People Image
The papers are accused of unlawful information-gathering: things like voicemail interception, the obtaining of private information by deception - aka “blagging” - and the use of private investigators for unlawful activities.
Barrister David Sherborne told the court the unlawful activity was carried out on “industrial scale” over around 20 years.

Here’s what we learnt on Day Two of Duke of Sussex v NGN hearing…

#PrinceHarry was watching on a video-link from LA as more shocking details about alleged hacking and blagging at The Sun and News of The World were revealed in court documents.
It’s alleged in the mid-90s The Sun was even intercepting the phone calls and messages of Charles, now King Charles, and Camilla, now Queen Consort.
Prince Harry claims his own private information about his “education, his health and welfare” - would’ve been accessed as a result #hacking #RoyalFamily
