AS NATIONAL TALKS RESUME, UPS TEAMSTERS READY FOR STRIKE VOTE

Subcommittees to the @UPS #Teamsters Nat'l Negotiating Committee, including Safety & Health and Premium Services, got back to the table in full force today as national talks with UPS resumed in Alexandria, VA. (1/12) Image
The teams, working across the table from @UPS negotiators, adjusted and improved contract language to help reach tentative agreement on nearly 10 articles before the end of the day. (2/12)
Simultaneously, the #Teamsters’ national committee announced that #strike authorization votes among UPS members will start being conducted by local unions in-person and nationwide beginning this week. (3/12) Image
“It was a big day for UPS negotiations, to say the least. Our subcommittees are putting in the work to make our contract stronger. We are a united front, wholly focused on the membership,” said #Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. (4/12)
“As unity strengthens at the table, we need to make sure it’s growing in the field too. The next 2 weeks will be critical to unite in person, authorize the committee to call a #strike, if need be & make sure UPS doesn’t lose sight of the formidable force it’s up against.” (5/12) Image
The national committee is urging all 350,000 UPS Teamsters to vote YES for strike authorization.

Doing so will not commence a strike in the immediate. But it will give the #Teamsters even more leverage at the bargaining table. (6/12)
The committee will not call a strike unless UPS fails to negotiate the strongest agreement possible by July 31. (7/12)
“Sean and I have said it many times and the fact remains — if Teamsters are on the picket line August 1, it’s because UPS chose to strike itself,” said #Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman. (8/12)
“Let’s all make sure UPS sees that reality in black and white. Let’s deliver UPS a unanimous authorization from the #Teamsters to strike if we have to.”

UPS Teamsters will reconvene with management at the bargaining table on Tuesday morning. (9/12)
Both sides are expected to cover off on a handful of articles and provisions that have now reached tentative agreement. Among them is Article 20, ensuring UPS supervisors are identified and remain identifiable inside facilities... (10/12) ImageImage
...Article 43, providing sleeper team drivers with reimbursement for out-of-pocket lodging costs, as well as adequate repair and maintenance of their vehicles; and guidelines protecting Premium Services... (11/12)
...including clarified language that ensures @UPS drivers are made whole for time spent waiting around for late loads or other unexpected work delays. (12/12)

Remember all those photos last summer of @UPS #Teamsters sharing temperature readings from the inside of their package cars? 100 degrees? 120? 140!

Yeah, we remember. #1u 🧵 Image
And all those workers and their families who’ve suffered death, heat stroke, dehydration, and severe illness won’t soon forget about UPS’s negligence.

It’s long past time this corporation pulling in revenue in excess of $100 billion did something about it.
Corporate PR campaigns like “Cool Solutions” and “ReCharge” aren’t going to cut it. #Teamsters need real solutions, not excuses and distractions.

At the bargaining table and in the barns, it’s time to reconcile with air conditioning and proper ventilation.

O’BRIEN TO UPS: YOU SUCCEED BECAUSE OF PEOPLE — DON’T FORGET THAT

After a 13-hour day — at the bargaining table & in subcommittee meetings — the @UPS #Teamsters National Negotiating Committee ended Tues. with a sharper focus on forcing UPS to make more progress on key proposals. Image
#Teamsters spent hours throughout the day pushing back on UPS's attempts to maintain the status quo or weaken worker protections in its Surepost program. Article 26 of the Nat'l Master Agreement outlines UPS’s eligibility to ship smaller packages of specific weight/size via USPS. Image
Several rounds of #Teamster proposals were exchanged to push UPS to put more boxes back on union package cars and commit to regular testing of the very technology the company uses to redirect volume. Image

#Teamsters are calling on shareholders of Chipotle $CMG to support Item Six, a proposal that calls for the adoption of a non-interference policy in worker organizing efforts to prevent union busting at the company: teamster.org/2023/05/teamst… #1u
Chipotle staff in Lansing, MI who joined #Teamsters Local 243 became the first workers to form a union at the fast casual chain last year.
"Let me put the record straight: while the company stopped short of breaking the law by firing workers — like an NLRB Administrative Law Judge found in Maine — Chipotle sent in union busters (euphemistically called ‘union avoidance consultants’) and held mandatory meetings..."
