Months into the worst inflation in decades, food price hikes are forcing consumers around the world to make difficult choices, and governments are feeling the pressure.
The UN's Food and Agriculture Organization updated its food price index on Thursday, showing the highest numbers since June of 2011. Food commodity prices in November rose 27.3% above the same time last year.
"It's at the point where we question, 'Do we need to eat a vegetable today?'" said one resident of central Sri Lanka, where the UN has issued a high-alert price warning.
