On Day 1 of #BonnClimateConference Ukraine and Russia exchanged words in the extended opening plenary about the war. The meeting was ultimately adjourned due to a lack of agreement on the formal Agenda. (Albeit not related to the war)
Meanwhile in the Gulf (Middle East) there is another complex Geopolitical situation developing following a statement from the Iranians asserting that Gulf Countries (Iran, Saudi and the UAE (the President of #COP28 will take over naval security from a US led force.
The startling and as yet unconfirmed claims from Iran came on the day that an Iranian Embassy was opened in Saudi. US Secretary of State @SecBlinken is now on a mission to the region to clarify what is happening.
This thread - posted last night brings together the somewhat contradictory reports which led up to the startling Iranian announcement, the first of which was published by the @nytimes on May 31st.
It will be interesting to see what impact - if any - all this has at the #BonnClimateConference.
On the day before the meeting a @UNFCCC official remarked off the record that their were concerns about the complicated fast developing geopolitical situation.

The event neatly illustrates the special circumstances of this conflict, especially wrt the sophistication of the information warfare in Western Narratives that so effectively drowned out the truth in this nightmarish conflict.
