Whether you work outdoors or enjoy your time out with family and friends, avoid exposure to the #sun between 10:00 am and 04:00 pm to the extent possible.
The sun’s #UV rays are the strongest during this time.
1⃣Seek shade when UV rays are the most intense, but keep in mind that shade structures such as trees, umbrellas or canopies do not offer complete protection.
Remember the shadow rule: “Watch your shadow – Short shadow, seek shade!”
2⃣Wear protective clothing:
A hat offers good protection for your eyes, ears, face, and the back or your neck sunglasses that provide 99% - 100% UV-A and UV-B protection will greatly reduce eye damage.
Tightly woven, loose fitting clothes will provide additional protection.
3⃣Use sunscreen of SPF 15+ and re-apply every two hours, or after working, swimming, playing or exercising outdoors.
4⃣Avoid sunlamps and tanning parlours!
Sunbeds damage the skin and unprotected eyes, and are the best avoided entirely.

@WHO @WHOoPt
Over 187 000 children under ten years of age were vaccinated with novel oral polio vaccine type 2 (nOPV2) in central Gaza during the first phase of a two-round polio vaccination campaign, conducted between 1-3 September 2024.
@UNICEFmena @ocharomena Vaccination coverage in this phase exceeded the initial estimated target of 157 000 children due to population movement towards central Gaza, and expanded coverage in areas outside the humanitarian pause zone.
.@WHO has lost communication with its contacts in Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza. As horrifying reports of the hospital facing repeated attacks continue to emerge, we assume our contacts joined tens of thousands of displaced people and are fleeing the area. ⬇️
There are reports that some people who fled the hospital have been shot at, wounded and even killed.
Over the past 48 hours, Al-Shifa Hospital--which is the largest medical complex in Gaza--has been reportedly attacked multiple times, leaving several people dead and many others injured.
"11 days ago, the Eastern Mediterranean Region – which was already facing some of the world’s worst humanitarian disasters – was confronted with a new emergency involving Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory, which has now reached catastrophic proportions"

"The escalation of conflict on the border between Israel and Lebanon could potentially destabilize neighbouring countries and threaten the safety, health and well-being of people in the Region as a whole."

"I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of you for coming together at this side event of the Brussels 7 Conference. We are gathered today because we share a common vision of a healthier, more resilient #Syria."
- Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari, @WHOEMRO Regional Director
"Earlier this year, I traveled to #Syria and saw firsthand the devastating impact of the earthquake, war, economic instability, and sanctions on innocent Syrians whose health and wellbeing continues to deteriorate."
