#OTD in 1885, "Dnyanodaya" newspaper published a letter written by Mahatma #JyotiraoPhule to #MGRanade (13 May 1885). Ranade invited #Jyotirao to attend 2nd annual conf of marathi writers. In reply, Jyotiba wrote a thought provoking letter to Ranade 👇
In his letter #JyotiraoPhule said, "I was very glad to receive your invitation. But oh, dear brother, our institutions & books have nothing to do with authors who have not the courage or guys to grant willingly or openly bahuman rights, & from the prevailing tendencies..
it is presumed that they could never bring themselves to grant these rights to those who have been deprived of them. The teachings & message of their books are poles apart from the message from the books written by us.
Their forefathers have taken vengeance on the shudras and #AtiShudras and have condemned then in their fake writings as their slaves. Their old, decayed manuscripts bear testimony to this. The miseries & sufferings through which the #Shudras & AtiShudras had to go for ages
& have to experience now in their life can't be imagined by the wiseacres who make useless casual speeches at such meetings. This is all known to the "Sarvajanik Sabha" & it's organizers; yet for a few temporary advantages for themselves & their children,..
they have drawn a veil over their eyes. As soon as they got pensions, they turned against the British govt, assumed again the pride of caste, became arrant idol-worshippers, assumed a look of perfect purity, & began to condemn Shudras & Atishudras as insignificant & low.
They considered it a pollution to touch paper money made by British Govt who gave them pension. Is this way the Brahmins are going to uplift this unfortunate county..? We Shudras will not now believe any more in the professions of our exploiters.
In a word, we will not gain anything by mixing with them. We must think for ourselves & rely on ourselves. If these men of note aim at bringing about real unity among all sections, they should find our how lasting brotherhood & mutual love be established among all mankind.
They should find such basic principles & declare them to the world through their books. It is not right to draw a veil over the real situation....
This is all that i can say. Please send this letter for the consideration of your conference. This is the first salutations from a simple old man.
Yours Sincerely
Jotirao G. Phule.

#OTD in 1888, the great social reformer #JyotiraoPhule was bestowed with the title of ‘Mahatma’ by Vithalrao Vandekar. As the history goes, Jyotirao had completed 60 yrs of his age & 40 yrs of social service fighting for the rights of the "bahujans"
To mark this achievement, it was decided by the bahujans and satyashodhak leaders & workers to felicitate Jyotirao Phule. Rao Bahadur Vithalrao Krishnaji Vandekar, Narayan Meghaji Lokhande were in the forefront for arranging this function.
Rao Bahadur Vandekar and his fellow workers decided to bestow the title of ‘Mahatma’ on Jotirao Phule for his dedicated service in the cause of humanity. Hon. Sayajirao Gaekwad Maharaja of Baroda, who also was invited for this function, could not attend the function.
Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar paid a visit to Agra city #OnThisDay in 1956. During this visit, #DrAmbedkar addressed a huge public meeting, in which he said,"Educated People have Deceived Me". The speech was a guideline for the Dalit movement.
In his speech Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar said, "I have been struggling for the last 30 years to get you political rights. I have got you reserve seats in Parliament and State Legislatures. I have got proper provisions made for education of your children"
Now it is your duty to carry on a united struggle for removal of educational, economic and social inequality. For this purpose you should be ready for all kinds of sacrifice even to shed blood...
92 yrs ago OnThisDay in 1930, Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar & Dadasaheb Gaikwad led a protest outside the Kalaram Temble, Nashik, in order to allowing Dalits into the temple.#DrAmbedkar Said, "We don't want to go to temples though, but we should have the right".
Kalaram Temple entry movement formed a pivotal role in the Dalit movement. Dadasaheb Gaikwad & Dr Ambedkar led a protest outside the temple, in order to allow Dalits into the temple. The movement was to have a #right_to_enter the temple. it was more towards having #equal_rights.
Dr Ambedkar said, “I didn’t launch the temple entry movement because I wanted the Depressed Classes to become worshipers of idols which they were prevented from worshiping or because I believed temple entry would make them equal members in & an integral part of the Hindu Society.
OnThisDay in 1956,Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar delivered a speech on "Origin of Buddhism"at #BanarasHinduUniversity. He said, "Buddhism is not a branch of Hinduism & religion existed at the time of the Buddha was different frm the Vaidic &Brahminical religion"
#DrAmbeddkar argued that, The Vaidic believed in the truth of the Vedas, the Buddha was totally opposed to the Vedas. In the Kalama Sutta, the Buddha taught that Human beings should think freely, and never believed that the Vedas contain eternal truth for mankind for the future.
The Buddha compared the Vedas with the desert. Vedas are only prayers to Indras and others for horses, weapons, victory over enemies, and material enjoyment. There is no moral teaching in the Vedas and therefore the Buddha repudiated the Vedas.
The First Round Table Conference officially inaugurated by His Majesty George V, #OnThisDay in the year 1930 in Royal Gallery House of Lords at #London. In this conference Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar demanded separate electorates for the "untouchables".
First Round Table Conference was held during 12 Nov 1930 – 13 January 1931 at London. Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar, during his presentation in 1931 round table conference, described the Indian society as divided in three distinct sections — Hindus, Muslims & the depressed classes.
Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar further stated that India can be truly independent only if these classes elect their own representatives for taking part in the process of government. #DrAmbedkar, thus, juxtaposed the class concept on caste division in India.
Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar established the ‘Bombay State Inferior Village Watandar Association’ under his own chairmanship OnThisDay in 1956. He was the “first legislator in India to introduce a bill for the abolition of the serfdom of agricultural tenants”.
Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar wanted to solve the problem of Mahar Watans by all legislative and constitutional means. He introduced a bill in Poona session of Bombay Legislative Council in 1937 (17 September) to abolish the Mahar Watan for which he had been agitating since 1927.
Clarifying the objectives of the Association that he formed on 16 June 1956, Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar stated that if the Government did not solve the problem amicably, then expressed his desire to prosecute the Government.
