@DrKMSimon @thebethelboston @BostonChildrens Hi Kevin - There's quite a few issues with this study as it relates to my statement that there are no long term studies on the mental and physical outcomes of kids with GD:

1/ GAC includes puberty blockers, cross sex hormones (GAH) and surgeries. This study only addresses GAH.

@DrKMSimon @thebethelboston @BostonChildrens 2/ This is a cross-sectional study of mental health metrics at baseline. It does not allow for any determination of causality, as the authors recognize. That's a pretty serious limitation for anyone saying that hormones improve mental health. (credit: @LeorSapir)

Boston Children's has been providing this type of medical treatment for over 10 years. How are they not able to do a study on patients for longer than 2 years?

4/ Only (7.9%) had received previous pubertal suppression treatment.

@DrKMSimon @thebethelboston @BostonChildrens @LeorSapir 5/ This study didn't look at the physical side effects of cross sex hormones. Bc it only included a very small number of patients who used PBs, it is really only looking at kids and young adults that already went through puberty!

This is the opposite of what I'm pointing out

This provides zero proof that blocking puberty in kids, then starting them on HRTs and then...

@DrKMSimon @thebethelboston @BostonChildrens @LeorSapir ...providing them with "affirming" surgeries results in positive mental AND physical health outcomes is purely a theory.

You know what else has a very positive outcome for GD kids?

Letting them grow up and go through puberty w/o drugs & surgeries

The act of affirming GD kids by adults and medical practitioners puts these kids into the GAC medical pipeline (PBs, HRTs and surgeries)
