When people ask me why I’ve given up on the #USMNT, this is why.I was a rabid fan through the 90s & early aughts. But at some point the league became captured by a commitment to mediocrity, a jingoistic USA! mentality that ended the remarkable progress we were making in the sport.
Lack of accountability for catastrophic losses, recycling the same mediocre coaches, the lack of speed in our game, xenophobia, pretense that there is an “American style of play” to be preserved, & satisfaction w/mediocre performances. Having Lalas as a commentator & booster.
The rehiring of Berhalter is embarrassing. As was the repeated rehiring of Bob Bradley. Even the reporters (Goff) are “Team USA.” We had a promising, competitive program & we are going in reverse. If you’ve only been watching the last 10 yrs, you don’t know what’s been lost.
Please note that all of last night’s goals were scored by #USMNT players who play in either the Premier League or the Bundesliga in Europe.
I just really hope folks will watch the Women’s World Cup in July. The USWNT is in Group E. Starts on July 20th. Or 19th. Hard to tell cause the Cup is in New Zealand & Australia & I don’t know the time change, tbh. Learn everything here. fifa.com/fifaplus/en/to…
For folks asking about my charge of “jingoism,” you may have missed this period, when rather than look for the best coaches, this was the attitude. washingtonpost.com/archive/sports…
And not just the coaches. There was ugly resistance to foreign- born U.S. citizen players. Lalas joined in on this one as well - broadcasting this garbage to listeners. sbnation.com/soccer/2016/11…

Important read. Besides the depressingly slow pace & early timidity at DOJ in investigating coordination at the top, I’m struck by several issues confirmed here as particularly important for how we go forward:
-First, we should not underestimate how the slow pace of confirmations delays urgently-needed departmental action
-Second, as I and others recognized, the public hearings of the House @January6thCmte were critical to spurring (shaming?) DOJ to speed up investigation at the top;
-Third, the reporting of @maddow on the fake electors scheme also played a role in speeding up DOJ action.
-Fourth, we’ve lost a great deal of time, but it’s clear there’s direction & momentum now. That Trump is a candidate shld underscore the urgency, not justify suspending it.
Utterly irresponsible and ignorant. Another super wealthy guy uninterested in facts, reading, or accuracy. Genius. 1) Biden did not “arrest” anyone. A soecial counsel appted by the AG made the charges…
2) What are “the crimes” which you claim are the same Trump & Biden. Trump is charged with “willful retention of Natl Defense Info; Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice; Corruptly Concealing Docs; Scheming to Conceal; Making False Statements & Representations.
For a year DOJ sought the return of these docs. Trump is alleged to have lied about them & moved them multiple tomes to avoid detection by federal agents. There is NO evidence that Pres Biden has engaged in similar acts. Your charge is baseless & irresponsible.
Have to depart with my sister @ProfMMurray on this. When you’re being pushed over the cliff and you are thrown a lifeline, you don’t lament the absence of a fence around the edge. At least not the first day! Seriously, I am frankly stunned to read 5 members of this Court make a…
…clear and unequivocal affirmation that race consciousness is necessarily part of redistricting. And the clear anger from the dissent let’s me know this was hard fought. It’s not Section 5 to be sure. Or even Section 2. But it ain’t nothing, esp when you think of what racial….
…gerrymandering have wrought. Applied to Alabama, Louisiana and South Carolina’s redistricting maps, would return the House to the Dems in 2024. Game changing in a variety of ways.
As Musk joins the “targeting” of Target (just asking questions), it’s worth remembering that in the last two months the AG of Maryland & the AG of Illinois each released rpts documenting decades of ACTUAL abuse against thousands of children perpetrated..1/ wapo.st/3MXDZke
by priests & other adult leaders in the Catholic Church - abetted & covered up by the church, police & even judges. Yet those who are most rabid about “grooming” & abuse have made no outcry, asked no “is this true?” questions, proposed no legislation. 2/ cnn.com/2023/04/05/us/…
Instead they choose to focus on Pride displays in Target, which have nothing to do w/grooming or abuse. And this is the right wing today-neither equipped nor interested in solving real problems affecting real live ppl. It’s always fetuses, imaginary caravans, store displays. 3/
I love you @andersoncooper. But that's not the choice. We hear Trump every day. His social media posts are reproduced. News stations & newspapers carry his statements & report on his every move. His followers lead the House of Representatives, and many state houses.
The question is how should a responsible journalism outlet in a democracy, use its platform to cover this public figure. Knowing he's a bully, a liar, will talk over the moderator, will express racist & sexist views, why have an audience of his supporters to cheer him on?
Why not have video and screenshots of statements to check him in real time, rather than a back and forth? Why not have an audience of just registered voters in NH & compel him to present his views before a diverse audience?
@EdKrassen Ed. Please. This is exactly what ppl said abt Trump in 2015. Musk used this platform to tell ppl to vote Republican last fall despite the clear danger Republican leaders pose to democracy. 1/
@EdKrassen He uses every buzzword of the far right and suggests that those who hold progressive views as being victims of a “woke mind virus” which he tells his followers constitutes a threat to humanity.
@EdKrassen He branded all verified users as “corrupt.” He chased credible news sources like NPR & PBS off the platform by carelessly referring to them as state media.
