The planet you think you're living on no longer exists. Change the economic system now while it's still too late. Image
1. We can organise to shift to a just food energy economy to protect species and everyone. Industrial capitalism is the worse case scenario for Earth's species.

33- 50% of Earth's species face near-term extinction due to non-climate GDP growth factors like industrial agriculture/fishing and logging.

Emissions are still rising. They should've peaked long ago for a decent chance of avoiding end-of-the-world warming.

CHANGE the SYSTEM. 🧵 Picture of tweet that says:...
1.  'By 2050, 38-46% of animal and plant species could be wiped out from the planet.'

We live in an Extinction Economy.

It can and must be replaced immediately.

2. The scientific consensus: 'steering away from the current limited paradigm of economic growth' is key for a 'global sustainable economy'.

Industrial capitalism only has fake solutions and is associated with cataclysmic change including rapid extinction.ipbes.net/news/Media-Rel…

1. Wealthy countries during industrial capitalism are doing the most ecological damage. 38- 46% of all species now at risk of extinction within 25 years. We won't cope with that. Industrial agriculture, industrial fishing, pollution, not just climate.
🧵⬇️
2. The whole high energy resource war growth economy is causing the fastest extinction rates in Earth's history. Capitalism's fake solutions assume there is a climate problem rather than an extinction predicament which requires degrowth to protect species.

The Extinction Economy: Birds

"15% of..bird species will go extinct or be committed to extinction by 2100 with business as usual..Unfortunately, things are getting worse, so this number is likely to be higher, as many as 2 out of 5 bird species."

2008
news.mongabay.com/2008/07/birds-…
Currently around 22% appear prone to extinction. This echoes the State of World Birds report.

BREAKING: species are disappearing faster than expected at the local level say worried scientists 🧵
1. “We find it very worrying that a constant or even increasing species number does not necessarily mean that all is well in an ecosystem and that the number of species will remain constant in the long term..we have so far underestimated..negative trends.."miragenews.com/underestimatio…
2. 'species that are in fact doomed..may remain present..for some time..This effect disguises..impending loss of biodiversity..There are transitional phases in ecosystems..Species extinction occurs only after these..phases..usually faster than expected”miragenews.com/underestimatio…

Who seriously thinks emissions from the whole vast global industrial economy will be cut by 50-70% within 7 years without economic system change?
Who seriously thinks billions of hungry people will be able to protect themselves from climate chaos without economic system change?🧵
1. Global warming is accelerating. This Extinction Economy is wiping out species faster than ever before in Earth's history, and climate is just one factor. Image
2. Billions in hunger and now we face 1.5/2°C by 2030- 2034. A monstrous economic system associated with death and extinction. A shift to a fair degrowth economy to protect species and everyone is the only option.

BREAKING: scientists confirm climate threats are expected to expand abruptly in the coming decades 🧵

1. 'for many animals, large swaths of their geographic range are likely to become unfamiliarly hot in a short span of time.

“many.. animals will need to move to cooler regions or evolve to adapt, which they likely cannot do in such short timeframes."
