The discussion of the assassination attempt of russian propagandist Zakhar Prilepin is missing important context: in 2007-2008 he along with @navalny founded “НАРОД” - an ultranationalist movement to “liberate the russian population” from whom you ask? Image
“НАРОД» mission was to “liberate” the truly russian (i.e. white and ethnically russian) population from not so pure ethnic minorities. They implicated using guns to deal with “pesky immigrants” and run “nationalist recruitment campaigns” like this one
By 2011 “НАРОД» activity dialed down yet @navalny kept the course and fear mongered Islamophobia as well as pushed for anti-immigration policies in 2014.

I’m glad this “anti-war” russian brought a speech by @vkaramurza in GOP where he is “discussing the war crimes of 🇷🇺”. I watched it. Out of 15 minute speech he mentioned war crimes in Ukraine for 8 seconds (9:00-9:10). But the whole speech is fascinating, so let’s dive in.
Kara Murza is a brilliant speaker, no doubts about it. His command of the word and storytelling skill is impressive. And he starts by acknowledging the situation and mentioning how hard was it for him to get to the us because of closed airspace around russia.
Then he reminded “western politicians” how appeasement feed dictatorship and how putin was a new hope in the eyes of west, while he was sending a clear message of him being a fan of Stalin era rule. Saying that he and many other 🇷🇺 knew from 1999 that putin is not democratic ImageImage

So @nytimes and @EmmaBubola made a podcast about “taken” 🇺🇦 children. And this is a prime example how forceful deportation of children by russians are portrayed as “saving” and not a textbook genocide practice. Let’s dive it, starting from “taken” part.

Apparently kids from the episode were in the middle of evacuation to Zaporizhzhia, when russian soldiers forcefully stopped the bus with guns and kidnapped the kids. The bus was then sent to russia. A journalist uses “taken” of all terms. Later we see why that choice was made.
While not emphasising the circumstances of the abduction and the context (aka russians invading and bombing the #Mariupol non stop, so the 🇺🇦 children had to be evacuated), the podcast is taking a rather unexpected turn.
