On 4th July 1943, Netaji announced the starting of the the last war of India's independence at the famous Padang of Singapore. On the same date in 1944, Netaji gave his most famous speech, "Give Me Blood, I will give you Freedom" in Burma, which gave a new hope and enthusiasm
among INA and Indians of Toa. In 1944 (or 1945), it was decided to commemorate the anniversary of Netaji's taking over of the Indian Independence movement and the starting of the last war of India's liberation by celebrating "Netaji Week" from 4th to 10th July. Almost every day
of Netaji week has it's own significance:-
4th July 1943- The starting of the last war of India's liberation
4th July 1944- Netaji gave his most famous speech, "Give Me Blood, I will give you Freedom"
5th July 1943- Netaji gave his famous slogan, "To Delhi, To Delhi" and
6th July 1943- Nippon PM Tojo saluted the INA (only foreign army saluted by him) along with Netaji, & gave a symbolic recognition to INA
8th July 1945- Netaji laid the foundation stone of the INA memorial
9th July 1943- Netaji gave slogan, "Total mobilisation for a total war"
In various sources, it has been mentioned differently how Netaji week was celebrated. The celebration can be summarised as-
➡️ Mass meetings & demonstrations
➡️ Pledges of loyalty
➡️ Singing of the National Anthem & patriotic songs
➡️ Military parades by INA, Balak Sena & RJR
➡️ Stirring speeches by Netaji and other leaders
➡️ Prayers were offered in temples, mosques & churches for long life of Netaji and success liberation war of India
➡️ Galantary awards like "Sevak-e-Hind" & "Veer-e-hind" were presented
➡️ General round of promotion in IIL & INA
➡️ Foundation stone of INA memorial was laid in 1945
After Japan and INA lost the war and Netaji disappeared, it was thought that Netaji Week won't be celebrated anymore but on the contrary, it was celebrated even more enthusiastically. Below pics show that Netaji Week was
celebrated in 1946 and 1947 (Azad Hind Day refers 21st of each month).
The Netaji week has made a deep impact on Syonan (Singapore) as it was on 15th July only that the INA memorial was inaugurated in 1995 and a biography on Netaji was released on 5th July in Padang by none
Burma will always hold a special place in the heart of all Netajians. Not only because it was the place from where INA launched their offensive to liberate India but also because it was the place where INA fought some of its most bitter battles and at the end had to
#NetajiWeek
Leave this place with the enigma of defeat. The sacrifices for which INA is revered today started in Imphal but were mostly suffered in Burma only. Of Netaji himself, Burma wasn't just a launching pad for his struggle. It was a encounter with past, with his & India's
How Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (the great Iron Man) prevented the broadcast of Subhas Chandra Bose on All India Radio for his 52nd birthday in 1949
On 24th December 1948, CM of Bengal BC Roy requested to Sardar Patel to organise a special program on AIR for Subhas' upcoming birth anniversary and suggested how it will be organised if permission granted
HVR Iengar, Secretary to the government of India instead of Sardar Patel replied to Secretary of Govt of WB saying that doing so will lead to a "departure from well established practice which would lead to embarrassment in future" &
it was decided with approval of Sardar Patel
How the mere presence of Provisional Govt of Free India proved a decisive factor in Red Fort Trials and hence in Independence of India (A thread) :-
We all know that the red fort trials or the INA trials played a unique role in Independence of India. We also know that the INA trials resulted in failure for Britishers as they couldn't punish the INA officers with the charge of 'Waging war with the King'. But do u know that the
Provisional Govt of Free India played an important role in this failure? To prove that the INA soldiers who waged war against their 'King' was not actually their king, the INA defense committee led by Bhulabhai Desai tried to prove that INA men fought under the command of
The connections and Legacy of Netaji in East Asia (A thread):-
The connections related to Syonan, Malaya and Burma don't need to be specified because Netaji spent most of his time in Toa (East Asia) in these countries only. So I am coming to legacy directly for 3 countries:-
🟦 Syonan (Singapore):-
Although the legacy of Netaji in Syonan is vast and uncountable still I have tried to highlight some:-
Netaji and his freedom struggle through Radio (A Thread) :-
Azad Hind Radio (transl. Free India Radio) was a radio service that was started under the leadership of Subhas Chandra Bose and Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany in 1942 to encourage Indians to fight for the Axis powers. Though initially based in Nazi Germany, its headquarters were
shifted to Japanese occupied Singapore, and later to Hyderabad, following the course of the war in Southeast Asia. After Netaji's departure to Southeast Asia, the German operations were continued by A.C.N. Nambiar, the head of the Indian Legion in Nazi Germany & later ambassador
