THREAD: Our #BannedBookmobile tour has been making waves all over the country!
We started in Chicago where our E.D. @rahnamepting, @BeckyPringle @rweingarten, @TeamStavaMurray, & @SenatorLaura helped us kick things off!
Then, we headed over to @Netroots_Nation where conference goers came to check out the Banned Bookmobile & grab a free banned book.
The @ILSecOfState Alexi Giannoulias, who led the country's first ban on book bans even popped by!
From there, we popped over to Milwaukee where @TheOtherMandela headlined our event.
WATCH:
On our way back to the east coast, we had to stop in the hometown of one of the most banned authors–Toni Morrison–Lorain, Ohio!
Next it was off to Cleveland, where dozens of folks turned out, including school board members and educators who shared their stories of confronting book bans.
The Steel City was next on the tour!
Our Pittsburgh stop was a blast and State Rep Chris Rabb (@RepRabb), sponsor of Pennsylvania's anti-book ban legislation, fired up the crowd, leaving us feeling motivated and inspired.
After Pittsburgh, we stopped in Charlottesville to meet with local families then headed to Richmond where we saw a great turnout for speakers @ScVanValkenburg, @SenatorHashmi, @AnneHolton, @DrLauranett and Madison Irving!
We had to make a quick stop at Chapel Hill's Peace & Justice Plaza!
Despite the scorching heat, we had lots of MoveOn members come visit us and grab a banned book!
Rain couldn't stop our mighty MoveOn members from turning out in Asheville!
We had a great time talking to folks, including many teachers and librarians from Florida, about the danger of book bans and learning about what they're doing in their community to fight back!
Then it was off to Nashville for a fantastic event featuring incredible activists on the front lines of fighting against extremist bans in TN - @AftynBehn and drag icon Vidalia Anne Gentry!

A Florida school has banned "The Hill We Climb," the powerful poem that Amanda Gorman recited at President Joe Biden's inauguration, saying it would now be off-limits to young readers after one parent claimed the poem was "indoctrinating" students.
We have a plan.
Thread... 🧵
With Ron DeSantis officially in the race for president, MoveOn is launching a "Banned Bookmobile," filling it with books that DeSantis has banned from schools in Florida, and driving it around the state to hand out those books, for free.
If we can raise enough funds, we'll take the Banned Bookmobile on tour around the country for months, following DeSantis to his campaign stops across the country, giving out banned books, hosting events with authors and advocates.
The Federal Reserve is one of the most important economic institutions in the world. That's why it's critical that the Senate votes to confirm Pres. Biden's slate of Fed nominees, who will consider economic & racial equity in their policymaking. #BidenFedNoms
This slate of nominees is historic for its diversity as well. The Fed Board has only ever had 3 Black members in its entire history—2 of Pres. Biden's nominees are Black and Dr. Lisa Cook could potentially be the first Black woman ever appointed to the Board. #BidenFedNoms
If confirmed, this set of nominees could be transformative. For the first time, the Fed would have a full board that could make meaningful progress on inflation, banking regulation, environmental policy, and other racial & economic justice priorities. #BidenFedNoms
Today, thanks to reporting from @propublica, the public is now able to see how the ultrarich avoid paying their fair share of taxes by exploiting loopholes and escaping scrutiny from federal auditors. It’s time for a #WealthTax. It’s time to #TaxTheRich. propublica.org/article/the-se…
Here's how absurdly unfair our current tax system is. #TaxTheRich
When @propublica calculated Jeff Bezos' true tax rate, it revealed that he only paid a 1.1% tax rate between 2006 - 2018 when his wealth increased by $127 billion. #TaxTheRich
There has been so much tragedy this week alone. We are constantly reminded of the urgent need to reimagine public safety. Policing is inherently violent — by design. It was built upon the foundations of white supremacy. The solution is to invest in our communities.
We will say the names of those who have been taken from us as a result of police violence. Their lives mattered. The pain of their loved ones is real. We won't forget them and we won't stop fighting.
But we shouldn't have to remind folks of their humanity to make the case that they should not have been killed. They should be alive right now.
NEW: Trump’s Use of Unidentified Federal Officers to Suppress Protest Is Backfiring in Senate and Presidential Battlegrounds, according to @ppppolls data we commissioned this week.
Majorities of #AZ, #ME, and #NC voters oppose Trump’s secret police program piloted in Portland this week and promised in other cities. What’s more, voters want Congress to intervene. But their Republican senators haven’t backed the legislation to rein in Trump.
We’ve watched in horror as Trump’s agents have used violence without accountability or transparency in Portland. Many have seen this same abuse from CPB agents on the border for a long time. This is a deeply dangerous jolt against democracy and for a strongman state.
Inspired by the #BlackLivesMatter protests, many people are buying nonfiction books about anti-racism.
Another way to better understand the lives of Black people is by reading literature, memoirs, and genre fiction by Black authors. Here are some of our recommendations:
1/
"The Vanishing Half," by @britrbennett is best seller for a reason: It's a deep exploration of race with characters will stay with you long after you’ve finished the book: bookshop.org/books/the-vani…
2/
"Lakewood," by @megiddings is a fast-paced thriller that combines history and the present, tackling social issues. Think of Get Out as a novel, with some Stephen King and Margaret Atwood thrown into the mix: bookshop.org/books/lakewood…
