Just spoke to a VHP leader who was present in Nuh during the violence. Here is what he has told me:
1. There are claims (by the media and several Muslim handles on Twitter) that the violence erupted because Monu Manesar was a part of the rally. This is false, reiterated the VHP… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Here are some videos that were sent to me by VHP leaders and workers on ground.
This apparently shows some VHP workers fleeing after their car came under attack by a mob pelting stones.
Here is one where the violence and its aftermath can be seen (Video sent by VHP workers and leaders)
Here a VHP leader is talking about how Hindus came under attack by a Muslim mob. He says that the mob was trying to ensure that Hindus, including women, were made hostages.
Another video shows a terribly injured VHP karyakarta after the religious procession came under attack by a violent Muslim mob #Haryana
Video sent by VHP workers present at #Nuh shows Muslim mob chanting Allahu Akbar, Naara e Taqbeer #Haryana
Initial report:
Haryana: Vehicles torched, stone pelted on VHP rally in Muslim-majority Nuh, Section 144 imposed
🧵OpIndia has been a rollercoaster ride for the better part of the past decade. We have dealt with resource crunch, lawfare, and more. But this time, as the calendar changes, I'm more hopeful and confident about things we've been doing in our small space. From launching an entirely different website to track Hinduphobia to research papers and ground reports, here is a short list of some of what we were able to accomplish this year—thanks to the support from our readers.
One of the things we are extremely proud of is the Wikipedia dossier detailing its war on India. This dossier was released in September 2024.
In the next few days, we will be releasing the Hindi version of this dossier.
2024 began with a visit to Israel. A tour of Yad Vashem made my resolve to document religiously motivated hate crimes against Hindus only became stronger. This year, we launched the Hinduphobia Tracker (@hinduphobia_tr). The tracker has detailed definitions of hate crimes and a fully public database. We are poised to release research papers and this year, we plan to foray into advocacy as well.
I've been tracking the Guptas for many years. First time I came across them was during a story I wrote in 2018 - about Kapil Sibal and a dubious land deal. In that story, I added a picture
In 2018, I wrote about Kapil Sibal's dubious land deal with one Piyoosh Goyal. Goyal was connected to Gupta Brothers. This investigation I had done was after the "Gupta Leaks" by South African journalists - basically - it was about Zuma's corruption
Piyoosh Goyal and Gupta brothers are reported to have begun their business relationship in 2010.
SA journalists had reported that family of Kapil Sibal – the Congress leader, his wife Promila Sibal, and his son Akhil Sibal, who is also a lawyer – and families of Piyoosh Goyal and Gupta brothers took a chartered flight from Delhi to Mumbai to watch the final of the 2011 Cricket World Cup between India and Sri Lanka.
Sam Pitroda runs an NGO called GKI. He co-founded it with two women - one a former advisor to US govt and the other, the current VP of Rockefeller Foundation.
His NGO gets funding from USAID, US State Dept and Rockefeller Foundation.
+ Sam Pitroda was appointed advisor to PM Manmohan Singh in 2009. In 2009, he co-founded US based NGO with Nina V. Fedoroff and Sara Farley. Nina V. Fedoroff is the former Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State. Sara is current VP of Rockefeller Foundation
+ From 2007 to 2010, Nina was the advisor to the then administrator Rajiv Shah for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). He also served in a range of leadership roles including Director of Agricultural Development, Director of Strategic Opportunities, Deputy Director of Policy and Finance, and Chief Economist at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Who is Rajiv Shah? He is the President of the Rockefeller Foundation and was the sixteenth administrator of USAID from 2010 to 2015 under the Obama Administration.
Interestingly, Rajiv Shah received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, the highest official honor for non-resident Indians, awarded by the President of India in 2011 – under the Congress government – when he was the administrator of USAID.
Update in Delhi anti-Hindu riots conspiracy case 🚨🚨
On 22nd April, HC had dismissed bail plea of Salim Malik - accused in the larger conspiracy case
Today, SC dismissed his SLP. HC order, which found prima facie evidence, has now attained finalityopindia.com/2024/04/anti-h…
This is a milestone in the Delhi anti-Hindu riots case. The HC order denying bail to Salim was scaring. A part of it:
“Thus, though the citizen of this country has a right to protest but it has to be in a peaceful manner and without resorting to violence. However, in the meetings dated 20/21.02.2020 at Chand Bagh and again on 22/23.02.2020, which were attended by the appellant along with other accused, the aspects related to riot-like violence and burning of Delhi, were openly discussed which is not acceptable in any democratic Nation."
HC clearly said that there was deep rooted conspiracy preceding Delhi anti-Hindu violence. That the conspirators took lessons from the Dec 2019 violence which followed same modus operandi. The protest sites were “given a secular look” and “Hindu names” to create communal violence
Prosecution says broadly the Defence has submitted their arguments under 3 heads:
1. Roles of bailed accuses higher than Umar therefore he should get bail 2. Compilation of judgement - Vernon case - Defence says after the previous bail was decided, Vernon was passed 3. Dismissal of earlier bail is no bar
With the latest argument with The Guardian journalist, I am sure many must be wondering why I take such a combative stand with western media. Why not try and coax them to see our perspective. Here’s why. I know from personal experience how they try to co-opt 🧵
I was once invited for an overseas event. Seemed like a great one with women journalists talking about the challenges they face. I was, of course, going to talk about Bengal and the challenges that comes with documenting Islamic extremism n/n
The logistics were decided from their end. I was to have a discussion with the panel moderator. We hopped on a zoom call. She asked me tell her my story, which I did. In the middle, there was conversation about western organisations working towards safety of women journalists +
