FTR: British system is different than many others. We fund 3-year PhDs, research only, though some programmes are 4 years, with a funded 1-year MA first. You need a full proposal. Main funder is ESRC but AHRC also possible. We have a big, active, intl group in a great dept
Also now is the time to get in touch with academics across the UK for PhDs — not just me. Departments don’t usually post open calls because funding is external and regular and tied to individual supervisors. Your potential supervisor should help you prepare your application
