I'm seeing a lot here about General Motors CEO Mary Barra after her disastrous CNN interview.
Barra raked in $29 million last year as GM CEO.
But I want to lift up a few more things about Barra, and how she represents the billionaire class more than people might even realize 🧵
In addition to being GM’s CEO, Barra also chairs the Business Roundtable.
The Business Roundtable is the lobbying group of top corporate CEOs.
Its board includes CEOs from Walmart, Apple, Ely Lilly, Kaiser Permanente and more.
And GM’s Barra *CHAIRS* the Business Roundtable.
Barra has also been a board director of Disney since 2017.
She is *very* close with Disney CEO Bob Iger. She sits on the board committee that oversees Iger’s enormous CEO pay.
She wrote a fawning tribute for Iger at Time magazine earlier this year.
The Barra-Iger nexus shows that striking auto workers and striking writers and actors are up against the same power bloc.
Iger/Disney has been an arch-nemesis of actors and writers 👇
(Meanwhile, Barra helped award Iger $130 million from Disney between 2019 and 2022)
If that’s not enough, Barra was also a board director of weapons’ giant General Dynamics from 2011 to 2017. So she’s part of the military-industrial complex, too.
So when UAW auto workers say they’re taking on the billionaire class, it's true in multiple ways. And Barra's ties just scratch the surface of the ways that the Big Three execs and directors are interlocked with the wider corporate elite ⤵️ truthout.org/articles/union…

The Koch donor network - made up of billionaires + pro-corporate zealots - is going hard after Minneapolis eductors + teachers who are striking just so that their students + schools can get the resources they need + educators can live decently.
The Center of the American Experiment (see previous tweet) is an affiliate of the State Policy Network, a national federation of rightwing think-tanks that pushes tax cuts for oligarchs + and is funded by the Koch-donor network.
5/ MA Gov. Charlie Baker has accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from entities tied to and/or pushing Weymouth - lobbyists, corporations, banks, etc.
1/ The Massachusetts DEP is holding a hearing tomorrow on a permit for the Weymouth compressor station - which has faced intense opposition from groups like @MothersOutFront & @FRRACS_MA.
2/ MA Gov Charlie Baker can stop the compressor station. And residents have made clear the health concerns around it - not to mention that the larger fracked gas export infrastructure it's part of will lock in new CO2 emissions for decades to come. wbur.org/earthwhile/201…
